Why Chengdu China | World | Chengdu
This is a city that comes but doesn't want to leave.
Coming from ancient Shu, it boasts the prosperity of the Qin and Han dynasties as the "five capitals" and the Tang and Song dynasties as the "one benefiting two". Despite being repeatedly tested by wars and natural disasters, it has always been full of vitality and vigorous. Now, the 31st Summer Universiade is about to grandly open here. Chengdu will gather the attention of the whole world.

The hosting of large-scale international events requires strong economic strength and complete infrastructure as support.
Chengdu speaks with strength - the total GDP in 2022 exceeds 2 trillion yuan, gathering 139 national level innovation platforms, 3 national advanced manufacturing clusters, and 2 national strategic emerging industry clusters, with strong development momentum; Having two major air ports, Tianfu International Airport and Shuangliu International Airport, providing the most convenient transportation conditions for the Universiade; With 57 universities, over 1 million college students, and over 21 million permanent residents, it provides a broad public foundation for cultivating the Universiade brand and expanding the impact of the World Universiade
Since successfully bidding for the Universiade in 2018, Chengdu has completed the construction, renovation, and expansion of 49 large sports venues and facilities. The functional hardware and service software of the venues have all reached international competition standards. Through hosting test competitions, the experience of hosting competitions has continuously improved.

Taking advantage of the preparations for the Universiade, Chengdu has built over 1500 parks of various sizes and over 5000 kilometers of greenways at all levels in recent years.
On the 100 kilometer green road around the city, the wind breaking cycling team, the rain free marathon training by Qinglong Lake, and the scattered rowing and paddleboarding on Jincheng Lake are rich gifts from the "City of Universiade" to people, as well as a warm confession of life.

The Chengdu Jinsha Museum, gazing at the ancient Shu sun bird and gold ornaments, offers a glimpse of the ancient Shu ancestors 3000 years ago who had a love for light and life, a steadfast longing, and an eternal pursuit. At the Chengdu Universiade, the torch, main stadium, emblem, medal ribbon... the figure of the "Sun God Bird" frequently appeared. This is the embrace of yesterday and today, the collision of the present and the future.

From chess in the Qin and Han dynasties to polo in the Tang dynasty, from cuju and chuiman in the Song dynasty to tennis tournaments in Huaxiba during the Republican era, and the martial arts "Da Jin Zhang" in Qingyang Palace, the genes of sports have always flowed in the bloodline of Chengdu.
The love for sports stems from a love for life. The East Han pottery figurines displayed in the Sichuan Museum, dancing and laughing, are a true portrayal of the optimistic and open-minded people of Chengdu.
Shu has been plagued by wars and disasters since ancient times, but these have not made the people of Shu unable to recover, but have added some resilience. If we consider the history of Chengdu's development as a super marathon running towards the sun, the wars and natural disasters have not stopped the runners. Don't give up, make it through, this city has been constantly refreshing personal best results!

The "Land of Abundance" is not built by the heavens to reward food, but by people building it with a drop of sweat and calluses.
The hardworking ancestors of ancient Shu planted rice in the Chengdu Plain over 4500 years ago, but were plagued by floods. From the legendary flood control by Dayu and Bieling to the construction of Dujiangyan Irrigation Project more than 2000 years ago by Li Bing and his son "Deep Taotan and Low Irrigation Weir", the people of Chengdu tamed the surging Minjiang River with wisdom and courage. From then on, there was the "Bazi" in western Sichuan, which "depends on people's flood and drought, and knows nothing of famine".

"Comfort" is the splendid attire of this city, and diligence and progress are its foundation. "Striving while living" is a true portrayal of many young people rooted in it today. From the 65 meter Fragrant Lane to the 100 kilometer long Tianfu Avenue, from Jingrong Town to Chengdu Science City, from ear picking artisans to game developers, there are more than 360 prosperous routes? Today, over 80% of entrepreneurs striving in Chengdu are young people under the age of 37, and the "City of Dayun" is even more like the "City of Youth".
In the scorching sun, during the rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the Chengdu Universiade, music played and Du Chunyu from Sichuan Media University immediately practiced dancing to the melody. He couldn't remember how many times his clothes had soaked through, and how many nights he practiced until early morning before returning to school.
At this Universiade, the number of registered young volunteers like Du Chunyu has reached 1.39 million. This summer, they will bloom with athletes in Chengdu.

Sports are the link, culture is the bridge.
From being honored as a national historical and cultural city, the world culinary capital, and the best tourist city in China, to being named the happiest city in China for 14 consecutive years, and now becoming the "City of Universiade," Chengdu's charm has always been online.
Strolling through Chengdu Taikoo Village, which gathers many international top brands, just a stone's throw away is the millennium old temple Daci Temple. Fashion and tradition complement each other, and international style perfectly blends with Chinese style. Simplicity without loss of brilliance is precisely the lifestyle aesthetics that Chengdu has always adhered to.

Chengdu people are born in their homes and live in tea shops, only loving the bowl of affordable "Three Flowers". Sitting in the century old Heming Tea House, looking up reveals the ancient charm of the tea house, while looking down reveals the fragrance of new tea. All living beings, in various forms, share a similar philosophy of life - "The rest of life is long, why panic?"
Chengdu foodies eat hot pot, don't like crowded internet celebrity shops with hundreds or thousands of customers, only love the "fly restaurant" on the street corner that has been eating for over a decade. Amidst the scorching heat, one pot after another showcases the inclusiveness of the city's sea and rivers.
Chengdu is spreading its arms and embracing distant guests. This will be a two-way journey between the world's youth and a Chinese city, and a youthful promise from China to the world.
The "Rong Fire" is about to light up the main torch tower, and fireworks are about to bloom on Dong'an Lake. On the field, the song of courage, cooperation, and transcendence of youth is about to be played.
Chengdu, ready.
