New Ideas Lead a New Journey: Safeguarding the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and Building a National Ecological Civilization Highland Ecology | Qinghai Tibet Plateau | Country
CCTV News: The Qinghai Tibet Plateau spans six provinces and regions, accounting for approximately 1/4 of China's land area.
The Qinghai Tibet Plateau is the birthplace of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River, with an average altitude of more than 4000 meters. It spans Xizang, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu.
General Secretary pointed out that we must promote the protection of biodiversity in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, firmly adhere to the path of ecological priority and green development, strive to build a modern society of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and effectively protect the third pole of the Earth's ecology.

Following the direction guided by General Secretary, cadres and the masses in various provinces and regions of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau have taken active actions. Xizang, which accounts for about half of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, has included six typical areas, including Mount Everest and Qiangtang, into the spatial layout plan of national parks, and more than 50% of Xizang's land area has been included in the ecological protection red line.
Xinjiang, Xizang and other places also launched ecological relocation and plateau ecological restoration projects in high-altitude areas. More than 400 villagers from Qimantag Township, located in the core area of Ruoqiang County in the Altun Mountains Nature Reserve of Xinjiang, have moved out of the reserve.
Now, the owners of this area are over 120000 rare animals such as Tibetan antelopes, Tibetan wild donkeys, and wild yaks, and the villagers have become guardians of these animals.

In Naqu area of Xizang Qiangtang National Nature Reserve, villagers are busy planting new grass seeds. The degraded pastures in the past are now planted with improved grass, and the habitat environment of wild animals on the plateau is significantly improved.
Adhere to the integrated protection and systematic management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sands, implement precise policies in various provinces and regions of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, and strive to explore the best solutions for ecological protection and restoration.
Control desertification. Located in the transitional zone between the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and the Loess Plateau, Gannan in Gansu Province is carrying out desertification and degraded grassland management. Through measures such as building fences for protection and improving sandy soil, the desertification situation along the Yellow River has been effectively curbed; The Yellow River flow in the region has increased by 18.7% compared to ten years ago.

Planting trees and afforestation. Located on the southeastern edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau in Ganzi, Sichuan, through artificial afforestation and comprehensive management of ecologically fragile areas in northwest Sichuan, a total of 296400 acres of new forest area have been added in the past five years. For the first time, more than 50000 spruce trees have been planted at an altitude of 3900 meters.
River and lake monitoring. At the "Ecological Window" monitoring point located in Qinghai, through the comprehensive application of satellite remote sensing, aerial remote sensing, and ecological environment big data platforms, the number of observation points has increased from 6 to 76, continuously improving the modernization level of ecological environment governance in the Three Rivers Source.
Nowadays, from snow capped mountains to lakes, from forests to grasslands, the Qinghai Tibet Plateau is actively building a grand pattern of ecological protection and governance. According to the latest data, the water quality of Xizang's main Rivers and Lakes all meet or exceed the Class III water area standard. There are more than 9600 recorded wild plants and 217 national key protected wild animals. Xizang is still one of the regions with the best ecological environment quality in the world. The ecological environment in the Three Rivers Source area continues to improve, with an average annual increase of over 6% in water conservation. Desertification and desertification land have achieved "double reduction", and the "Chinese Water Tower" is becoming increasingly abundant. The Qinghai Tibet Plateau is accelerating the creation of a beautiful picture of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
