On the afternoon of June 6, General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over a forum in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia, to strengthen the comprehensive prevention and control of desertification and promote the construction of key ecological projects such as the "three norths." General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed: it is necessary to courageously undertake the mission, be not afraid of hardships, and do meritorious service for a long time, strive to create a new miracle of China's desert prevention and control in a new era, build a more solid green barrier in the northern part of the motherland, and make greater achievements in building a beautiful China.
Desertification is a major global ecological problem that affects human survival and development. According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification adopted in June 1994, desertification refers to land degradation in arid, semi-arid, and sub humid arid areas caused by various factors, including climate change and human activities.

For a long time, desertification has posed a serious threat to human survival and is the main cause of sandstorm disasters. China is one of the countries with the largest desertification area, the largest affected population, and the most severe sandstorm hazards in the world. There are currently 3.861 billion acres of desertification land in China, affecting the production and daily life of over 400 million people.
For a long time, China has regarded the prevention and control of desertification as an important strategic task and has taken a series of effective measures.

A total of 305 million acres of desertified land have been treated nationwide, with a total area of 27076500 acres of desertified land under lockdown and protection. The treatable rate of desertified land has reached 53.1%, and 41 comprehensive demonstration zones for desertification prevention and control and 99 national desert parks have been established.
