Xuwen County in Zhanjiang City is located at the southernmost end of mainland China, at the end of the Leizhou Peninsula. After the start of the construction of the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project in the Beibu Gulf, Xuwen County immediately connected with the construction unit of the project, coordinated relevant departments and townships, established an engineering coordination command center, and accelerated the construction of a "complete system, safe and reliable, intensive and efficient, green and intelligent, smooth circulation, and orderly regulation" water network planning pattern. Xuwen is fully prepared to undertake the introduction of water from the Xijiang River, striving to maximize the project benefits as soon as possible and enhance its water safety guarantee capacity.

At present, 50% of townships in Xuwen County are still unable to meet irrigation water needs, and many rural residents can only meet their water needs by drilling wells. The shortage of water resources seriously hinders the high-quality economic and social development of Xuwen County.
It is reported that after the completion of the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project in the Beibu Gulf, it will further ensure the safety of domestic water for about 300000 urban and rural residents in Xuwen County, ensure 50% of the agricultural production water for townships in the county, and provide an annual water consumption of 20 million cubic meters for industries and enterprises in the county, effectively alleviating the local water resource shortage and drought shortage situation, thereby solving the problem of mismatch between water resource carrying capacity and economic development layout, and breaking the dilemma of "nine droughts in ten years" in Xuwen County. The Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project in the Beibu Gulf is the largest cross basin water diversion project in the history of Guangdong Province, with the longest water diversion flow, the longest water transmission line, the most complex construction conditions, and the highest total investment. It starts from Dixin Village, the main stream of the Xijiang River in Yunan County, Yunfu City, and ends at Dashuiqiao Reservoir in Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City. The total construction period is 96 months, and the annual increase in water supply is 2.079 billion cubic meters. The total length of the water transmission line is 490.33 kilometers, with a total investment of 61.456 billion yuan.
Li Daimao, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Yuehai Yuexi Water Supply Co., Ltd., the construction unit of the project, stated that the project takes water from the main stream of the Xijiang River and pressurizes it through a pumping station. It passes through the Yunkai Mountains, known as the "highest peak in western Guangdong", connects 10 reservoirs, and transfers water to the Leizhou Peninsula, facing various industry and even world-class difficulties and challenges. Among them, a section of the Yunkai Dashan Tunnel, with a total length of about 63.33 kilometers and a maximum burial depth of about 910 meters, is the deepest water conveyance tunnel in Guangdong Province to date.
Li Daimao stated that digging long-distance tunnels is one of the most difficult problems to be overcome in the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project around the Beibu Gulf. Among the nearly 500 kilometer long water transmission lines, more than 56.62% are tunnels that pass through high mountains, plains, and basins, with undulating terrain and complex geological structures. This is equivalent to building a giant "water pipe" in a terrain where erosion, weathering, karst, and fractures are widespread.

To solve technical difficulties, the engineering construction unit has taken a series of measures, such as forming an expert consulting team, establishing a doctoral workstation, determining seven major topics and 21 scientific research topics, creating a labor model innovation studio, collaborating with universities and research institutes to carry out scientific and technological research, and learning from advanced experience in large-scale water diversion projects in China. With strong technological support and guarantee, the unit has developed various types of excavation equipment and ultra large flow and high-power centrifugal pumps to ensure safe and efficient tunnel excavation and stable operation after completion.
The reporter learned from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources that in order to solve the technical difficulties faced by the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project in the Beibu Gulf, the first batch of key technology research on ultra large flow and high-power centrifugal pump units, as well as key technology research on rock stability and lining structure of high-pressure tunnels under complex hydrogeological conditions, were launched in October last year. High level research institutes in the domestic water conservancy industry, such as Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Chinese Academy of Water Sciences, Nanjing Academy of Water Sciences, and Guangdong Academy of Water Sciences, were introduced to provide strong scientific and technological support and guarantee.
At present, 43 participating units in the design, supervision, construction, pipe production, and testing of the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project in the Beibu Gulf have entered the site. As of the end of July, a total of 4523 people and 592 large mechanical equipment have entered the construction site along the route. In order to better achieve river reservoir network scheduling, Guangdong Yuehai Yuexi Water Supply Co., Ltd. is exploring the establishment of an engineering intelligent operation and maintenance support system that integrates safety monitoring, emergency support, operation monitoring, and other aspects, to ensure scientific and accurate joint scheduling.

During this time, her vehicle got stuck in mud and could not move. The investigation team went to a nearby village to seek help. Seeing unfamiliar faces, the villagers inevitably became somewhat cautious. After the investigation team presented their work permits to show their intention, the villagers changed their attitude. They not only took out their herbal tea and meat dumplings, but also helped find someone to tow them.
In recent years, the arbitrary discharge of domestic sewage in upstream areas and the overconstruction of aquaculture farms have led to water pollution in rivers, greatly affecting the lives of local downstream residents. The arrival of hydrological personnel in Guangdong has shown them hope to solve the drinking water problem. This incident had a great impact on Li Lanru. She said, "Hydrological work is closely related to the lives of the people. Doing a good job in hydrological basic work is to do practical things for the people."
