【 Daily Lesson · The Beauty of Countryside 】 Transforming the longing of farmers for a better life into a driving force for promoting rural revitalization | Farmers | A Better Life
Xi Jinping: we should fully respect the wishes of the broad masses of farmers, mobilize their enthusiasm, initiative and creativity, turn their yearning for a better life into a driving force for rural revitalization, and take safeguarding the fundamental interests of the broad masses of farmers and promoting their common prosperity as the starting point and foothold.
This passage comes from the speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping during the deliberation of the Shandong delegation at the first session of the 13th National people's Congress on March 8, 2018.
More than 500 million people in our country live in vast rural areas. Only by building rural areas well, accelerating the realization of strong agriculture, beautiful rural areas, and prosperous farmers, can millions of farmers live and work in peace and live a happy and beautiful modern life on the spot. In the process of comprehensively promoting rural revitalization, farmers are both the main force and direct beneficiaries.
The General Secretary has reviewed his youth years in the rural areas of northern Shaanxi and his fellow villagers on multiple important occasions. Every time he went to local areas for investigation and research, he would go deep into the countryside, visit farmland and rural households, have long conversations with fellow villagers, and gain a detailed understanding of their income, life, needs, and expectations. He encouraged and supported farmers in various regions to work hard and develop industries that enrich the people according to local conditions. From replying to letters encouraging large grain growers to grow more and better crops, to sending holiday blessings to farmers across the country every year on the occasion of the Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival, and then praising new farmers who return to their hometowns to start businesses... General Secretary has always called on the whole society to pay attention to agriculture, care for rural areas, and care for farmers through various means, encouraging farmers to actively participate in the practice of accelerating agricultural and rural modernization, and making life more prosperous.
The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that the most arduous and arduous task of comprehensively building a socialist modernized country still lies in rural areas. Today, in the vast rural areas of our country, farmers are solidly promoting the revitalization of rural industries, talents, culture, ecology, and organizations under the leadership of party committees and governments at all levels. From accelerating the construction of high standard farmland, stabilizing and increasing grain production, to cultivating and developing characteristic industries, promoting farmers to increase their income and become prosperous, from improving the living environment and village appearance, to organizing cultural and sports activities during leisure time, enriching rural life... Farmers in various regions continue to promote the traditional virtues of hard work and hard work, and strive to promote the rapid development of local rural areas and the gradual improvement of production and living conditions. Many farmers have also mastered advanced production and management skills by learning the latest agricultural technologies and management methods. Some have become new farmers with professional titles, while others have become leaders in driving more farmers to find employment nearby. Taking Zhejiang as an example, in the 20 years since the implementation of the "Ten Million Project", local farmers have not only embarked on a green development path with their own characteristics of "prosperous industry, livable ecology, civilized rural culture, effective governance, and prosperous life", but also actively expanded new paths for urban-rural integration development and promoting common prosperity. The income ratio of urban and rural residents in the province has decreased to 1.9, fully demonstrating the main role of farmers in comprehensively promoting rural revitalization.
Practice has proven that the vast majority of farmers in China have the willingness and ability to build good rural areas. In the process of comprehensively promoting rural revitalization, we need to fully understand the needs of farmers, respect their wishes, and take care of their feelings. We should coordinate with all parties in terms of policies, funds, technology, services, etc., provide more support and assistance to farmers, better stimulate and gather the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of farmers, and jointly create a happy home for billions of farmers.
