[Daily Learning] Let Wetland Park Become a Green Space Ecological Environment Shared by the People | Wetland | People
Wetlands refer to areas with perennial or seasonal ponding and wet surface, including natural wetlands such as rivers, lakes, marshes, mudflat and shallow sea areas, as well as artificial wetlands such as paddy fields, ponds and reservoirs. Wetlands are often rich in animal, plant, and microbial resources, and are a complete ecosystem with various ecological functions such as water conservation, climate regulation, flood and drought prevention, and maintenance of biodiversity. They are known as the "kidney of the earth".
China currently has an area of approximately 56.35 million hectares of wetlands, ranking first in Asia and fourth in the world, making it one of the countries with the most complete wetland types in the world. Hangzhou Xixi Wetland, Yellow River Delta Wetland, Yunnan the Hani terraced fields of Honghe State, Zhanjiang Mangrove, etc. are well-known wetlands. Protecting the authenticity and integrity of these wetlands is not only related to the ecological security of our country, but also to the beautiful life of each and every one of us.
In the past decade of the new era, China has made wetland protection an important part of ecological civilization construction, continuously increasing efforts in wetland protection, restoration, and management. A series of powerful measures have been taken to promote the continuous improvement of China's wetland ecological environment, from the formulation and implementation of the first law specifically designed to protect wetlands, to increasing law enforcement efforts and cracking down on the encroachment and destruction of wetland resources, and to strengthening ecological environment monitoring and restoration of degraded wetlands in important wetlands. In 2022, China added 18 internationally important wetlands, with a total of 82, ranking fourth in the world.
Today, many of our wetland parks have a good ecological environment and beautiful natural scenery. They not only play important ecological functions, but also serve as a good place for local residents to get close to nature and have leisure activities. Some wetland parks have built facilities such as waterfront boardwalks, lakeside runways, camping areas, and photography bases to meet the diverse needs of people for strolling, enjoying scenery, exercising, and leisure and entertainment; Some hold research and science popularization activities in the park, allowing people to learn about wetlands and related knowledge of flora and fauna while watching birds and flowers, and popularizing knowledge of ecological environment protection for the public. Wetland parks are playing an increasingly important role in people's daily lives.
The original ecology is the most prominent feature of wetlands. Only by adhering to scientific protection and rational utilization can we promote a virtuous cycle and coordinated development of wetland protection and utilization. We need to effectively leverage the ecological, production, and living functions of wetlands, making wetland parks a green space and happy home shared by the people in their daily lives.
