Why choose "Huanxin" to rebuild a highway in 3 years? The G15 Jialiu section widening project is now open to traffic in Jialiu | Transportation | Huanxin
Today, the G15 Jialiu section widening project, which has been under construction for three years, is officially open to traffic. Is it still meaningful to renovate and renovate a new highway within three years? As more and more highways enter middle age, such confusion becomes increasingly prominent.
In 1988, China's first expressway, the Shanghai Jia Expressway, was completed and opened to traffic, refreshing people's definition of "speed". Nowadays, the G15 Jialiu section not only attempts to answer this confusion, but also refreshes people's impressions of the functions of highways.
"Low impact" enters the high-speed field
Starting from the Shanghai Jia Expressway, China's expressways have entered a golden period of development, with highways transforming from points to lines, from lines to networks. Looking back, a large number of planned and constructed highways in the early 1990s have entered the "middle age" of facility operation. They are the backbone of urban transportation, but at the same time, early lane design and aging supporting facilities are no longer able to meet the current transportation needs.
The G15 Jialiu Expressway, built in the 1990s, faces these pain points. As an important transportation channel for Shanghai to other provinces and cities, it faces a bigger challenge: due to traffic pressure, the G15 Jialiu Expressway cannot be easily overturned and restarted, but renovation and construction will also affect normal traffic.
At a dilemma, the design and construction team chose a new approach and adopted a low impact update method. Low impact means it will not affect normal operation. It is commonly used in urban renewal in the field of housing construction and is still the first time on highways. The difficulty is much higher than ordinary road renovation. Firstly, the renovation mileage is very long, involving a total of 12.57 kilometers; Secondly, highways are bustling with traffic, with extremely fast speeds and high levels of danger.
According to the planning plan, the G15 Jialiu Expressway will add two lanes with a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, expanding from the original six lanes to eight lanes. Not only do the lanes need to be patched, but also 6 major bridges, 23 small and medium-sized bridges, 2 box culverts, and 6 pipe culverts need to be renovated. The Tunnel Stock Company mobilized resources from the entire industry chain of construction, design, construction, and operation, and ultimately decided to adopt a "build one section, deliver one section", segmented and time-sharing, and multiple handover plans.
"It's like eating a cake, the entire highway is like a big cake, and we can't eat it all at once. So we cut the big cake into dozens of small cakes, and each time we eat a small piece, it won't affect the overall cake," said Jiang Hongying, the person in charge of the Jialiu Expressway project of Tunnel Construction Investment.
In 2020, the widening project of G15 Jialiu section began and was listed as a major project in Shanghai. After more than 40 traffic interchanges, the G15 Jialiu Expressway has been updated and widened with the highest efficiency, while minimizing the impact on citizen traffic.
Traditional high-speed transformation and smart path
The G15 Jialiu Expressway renovation section starts from the Shanghai Jiangsu Provincial Boundary in the north and connects to the Jialiu Interchange in the south. After the renovation, the "North Gate" of Shanghai has expanded and increased traffic, and the expressway has been given new functions, becoming the first intelligent demonstration highway in Shanghai to be achieved through renovation and expansion.
In the expansion and construction process, the tunnel construction team has introduced the concept of "full lifecycle operation management", relying on digital twin technology to create digital scene solutions and improve comprehensive operation and management efficiency. Among them, Jiaxi Smart Toll Station is the first modern intelligent toll station in Shanghai, integrating ETC ramp pre trading, intelligent toll robots, autonomous self-service card issuance, toll station holographic simulation, station level toll system and other innovative applications in smart transportation construction.
"After the completion of the Jialiu Expressway widening and reconstruction project, it will achieve rapid and smooth traffic along the G15 expressway, which is conducive to improving the national and regional comprehensive transportation system." Jiang Hongying introduced.
