It's getting hot, Shanghai is about to start autumn again. Tomorrow, the country will enter the 13th solar term of the 24 solar terms, "Liqiu". Shanghai's heat will not subside, with the highest temperature approaching the 35 ℃ high temperature line.
Meteorological data shows that during the "Beginning of Autumn" solar term, the average temperature in Shanghai is 28.9 ℃ and the average precipitation is 123.7 millimeters. Compared to the previous solar term "Great Heat", the temperature has decreased while the rainfall has increased.
According to the rules, "Liqiu" should have been cooler than "Dashu", but Shanghai friends feel a bit hotter this week compared to the previous two weeks. The Shanghai center Meteorological Observatory forecasts that the highest temperature in Shencheng this week will be stable at 33 ℃ to 34 ℃, with local showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. The combination of such temperatures and showers can be considered as "boiling water".
The reason is very obvious. In the first two weeks, Shanghai was affected by the peripheral circulation of two typhoons, Dussuri and Kanu, and the temperature was continuously suppressed by heavy rain and water. Since the beginning of this year, there have been 13 days in Shanghai with temperatures exceeding 35 ℃. Last year at this time, Shanghai had already reached 34 high temperature days due to the strong subtropical high pressure and limited rainfall and strong winds.
During the "Beginning of Autumn" solar term, Shanghai experiences an average of two hot days, with significant interannual variations. For example, in 1947, during the 16 days of the "Beginning of Autumn" solar term, there were almost daily high temperatures. On August 7, 2013, there was also an extreme maximum temperature of 40.8 ℃.
From a national perspective, as the first solar term of autumn, "Liqiu" has not yet shown its power. The Central Meteorological Observatory stated that for most parts of China, the beginning of autumn does not mean the beginning of autumn, and the autumn atmosphere has not yet appeared. The true autumn in Shanghai will also come in early October, two months later.
During the perennial "beginning of autumn" period, only some areas in the northwest and northeast of China have started the transition from summer to autumn, which is relatively cooler. In addition, most areas in Northeast China were affected by the northward movement of the "Kanu" residual cloud system this year. This week, there were moderate to heavy rains, partial rainstorm.
Most other regions are still in summer, especially in the southern regions where high temperatures are still prevalent. According to meteorological big data statistics from 1991 to 2020, the number of high temperature days during the beginning of autumn in Jiangnan, South China, and Sichuan Chongqing regions was over 4 days, while some areas in Chongqing, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hubei, and other areas could reach over 7 days.
August, where "Liqiu" is located, is the season of active typhoons throughout the year. According to the solar terms, from 1949 to 2021, the time when typhoons made landfall in China was mainly concentrated in "Xiaoshu", reaching 60, followed by "Liqiu", reaching 59.
From the perspective of landing areas, 19 typhoons that made landfall in China during the Liqiu season landed in Guangdong, 12 made landfall in Zhejiang, and 10 and 9 made landfall in Taiwan and Hainan, respectively, accounting for 84.7% of the total.
