For ordinary audiences, achieving the goal of "carbon neutrality" is still a vague concept, but this Carbon Expo will present a clear answer to the public towards "carbon neutrality". More than a thousand "carbon neutrality" technologies and products were ready, and new business models in various new scenarios and cutting-edge low-carbon applications in various industries will jointly form this "carbon neutrality" feast.
Green industries showcase development opportunities
Under the "3060" low-carbon transformation goal, various green industries have emerged, becoming a new driving force for economic development. Founded in 2000, NetEase Technology focuses on cloud computing business. With the increasing demand for energy consumption in the computing industry, NetEase Technology believes that energy conservation and consumption reduction will be a very important development direction in the future. Therefore, in 2015, NetEase Technology established a subsidiary called Green Cloud Map to independently research and develop immersion liquid cooling technology for servers.
At the Carbon Expo, servers immersed in water are the latest achievements of the Green Cloud Map. By using immersion liquid cooling technology, the cooling energy consumption of servers will be reduced by 90% to 95% compared to the past, and the operating energy consumption of processors will be reduced by 10% to 20% compared to the past. At present, the technology of green cloud mapping has been implemented in the Jiading Cloud Computing Data Industrial Park, creating the first fully immersed data center in Shanghai.
Similar cases of green new economy can be found everywhere at the Carbon Expo. Lingang Group also participated in the exhibition with its 20 key parks, 4 service platforms, and more than 60 park enterprises, creating the largest enterprise exhibition area and the only park exhibition area at this year's Carbon Expo. Tesla, which has landed two super factories near the port, will also make an appearance at the Carbon Expo. The transition to sustainable energy has always been Tesla's development strategy. At this year's Carbon Expo, Tesla will comprehensively showcase a full range of products including pure electric vehicles, charging, energy storage, and green factories. Energy storage products such as Powerwall and Megapack, which have seen a surge in overseas demand recently, will also be showcased on site.
Green technology leads low-carbon transformation
This year's Carbon Expo includes six major sectors: energy transformation, energy conservation and efficiency enhancement, circular economy, practical exploration, low-carbon services, and low-carbon transportation. In fact, it also corresponds to the six major fields that have emerged from the current low-carbon transformation of the social economy.
Among them, energy transformation is undoubtedly the highlight. The reporter saw at the exhibition booth of Shenergy Group that traditional energy enterprises have diverse transformation methods, and low-carbon transformation achievements in fields such as coal-fired power, gas, finance, renewable energy, hydrogen energy, and environment have all been brought to the booth, making it a concentrated version of a small carbon expo. Some of the star projects and products of Shenergy Group, such as the world's largest single unit capacity and lowest energy consumption thermal power generation project - Shenergy Anhui Pingshan Power Plant Phase II "135" National Demonstration Project, the world's first kilometer level superconducting cable for super cities, and the first batch of green "carbon neutrality bonds" in China and Shanghai, will all appear at the exhibition booth.
In the long run, the requirement for global low-carbon energy transformation is to gradually reduce the use of fossil fuels and increase the proportion of renewable energy use. However, in the short term, renewable energy production capacity is insufficient, and more energy-saving and carbon reducing technologies are needed to help economic activities reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
At this year's Carbon Expo, many high energy consuming enterprises showcased their latest carbon reduction technologies and solutions, and BASF, a global chemical leader, was one of them. The production process of some basic chemicals will consume a large amount of energy, resulting in high carbon emissions. After conducting internal statistics, BASF found that the total carbon emissions of about 10 chemicals account for 70% to 80% of its own carbon emissions, with steam cracking being the most common. Therefore, BASF gradually began to replace them with clean processes. Currently, BASF's world's first large-scale electric heating steam cracking furnace has been launched for construction.
Even when carbon emissions have already been generated, they can be collected again to achieve "turning waste into treasure". Even the cleanest industries require the use of fossil fuels in some processes, which inevitably leads to carbon emissions.
