Yesterday, State Grid Shanghai Shibei Power Supply Company was officially awarded the "2022 Carbon Neutrality Certificate" by the Shanghai Environmental Energy Exchange. Shibei Company became the first prefecture level power supply company in the State Grid system to achieve self circulation operation carbon neutrality practice, carbon forward trading practice, and "carbon management+carbon finance+carbon neutrality" integrated application practice.
In May of this year, State Grid Shanghai Shibei Power Supply Company launched the first integrated innovation practice of "carbon management", and completed the 2022 carbon neutrality work of Shibei Company through the process of "evaluation, carbon borrowing, cancellation, and repurchase".
As the first step in the integration and innovation of "carbon management", Shibei Company takes its own carbon emission level as the starting point to carry out the 2022 office carbon emission accounting work, and conducts in-depth exploration of production and office energy consumption in the office area. The staff conducted on-site visits to the production equipment rooms in the company's office area, sorted out and positioned the types of equipment, geographical location, measurement status, monitoring and statistical methods, and also assessed the energy consumption situation in high energy consuming areas such as the unit cafeteria. Through data collection and on-site visits, the company's carbon emissions status was grasped. Based on the collected data, Shibei Company has obtained an authoritative carbon accounting report issued by Yingda Carbon Asset Company. After calculation, Shibei Company has cumulatively emitted 450.59 tons of carbon dioxide in 2022.
To obtain a carbon neutrality certificate, it is necessary to complete the cancellation of national certified voluntary emission reduction assets of the same scale as carbon emissions. The amount of emissions reduction involved in voluntary emission reduction must be registered and recorded by the national competent department in the National Voluntary Emission Reduction Trading Register. Only after registration can the emission reduction assets be referred to as CCER assets. Within the jurisdiction of Shibei Company, projects such as the Wusong Port electricity facilities and renewable energy dedicated lines independently invested by the power grid have contributed 89329 tons of carbon reduction to the society through national methodological calculations. However, these assets have not yet been officially registered and cannot participate in the carbon neutrality process.
Faced with this challenge, Shibei Company entrusted Carbon Asset Company to successfully acquire 451 tons of CCER assets provided by Guotai Junan through a carbon borrowing and repurchase model, using future carbon emission reduction assets that Shibei Company can develop as forward trading targets. The relevant assets have been deregistered under the authentication of the Shanghai Environment Exchange, achieving self operational carbon neutrality by offsetting emissions from power grid investment and emissions reduction, and obtaining an authoritative carbon neutrality certificate certified by the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange. After investing in the development of carbon emission reduction assets by Shibei Company in the future, mainstream carbon traders such as Guotai Junan will repurchase the developed carbon emission reduction assets, achieving a full process closed-loop.
