The number of McDonald's stores in mainland China is expected to exceed 10000, and it is expected that by 2028, the "Golden Arch" will fully unleash its power in China | McDonald's | Number
By 2028, the world's largest fast food chain brand McDonald's is expected to have over 10000 stores in mainland China. This is information obtained by reporters from McDonald's China's celebration of the sixth anniversary of the establishment of the Golden Arch.
On October 8, 1990, McDonald's officially entered the mainland Chinese market. The era of "Golden Arches" began on August 8, 2017. At that time, CITIC Corporation, CITIC Capital, and Carlyle Investment Group reached a strategic partnership with McDonald's Global, holding 80% of the shares. The new company "Golden Arches" obtained McDonald's franchise rights in mainland China and Hong Kong, operating and managing McDonald's business in mainland China and Hong Kong. "Golden Arches" also became McDonald's largest franchisee outside the United States.
What sparks will collide when highly localized shareholders, board of directors, and management teams open a new chapter in the development of McDonald's brand in China?
"Entering the era of the 'Golden Arches', McDonald's China has fully utilized local resources, accelerated decision-making, seized opportunities in the rapidly developing Chinese market, and empowered accelerated localization development. Currently, China is the second largest and fastest growing market for McDonald's global restaurants, and has created over 180000 job opportunities." McDonald's China Chairman Zhang Yichen said, "Shareholders and the board continue to have a positive outlook on the development prospects of the Chinese market, with a goal of 10000 restaurants, and continue to promote the accelerated development of the' Golden Arches'."
It is understood that before transforming into the "Golden Arch", McDonald's had a total of around 2700 stores in mainland China. Currently, half of the over 5400 stores were opened during the Golden Arches era. About 50% of the 5400 restaurants are located in lower tier cities. Zhang Yichen stated that this is due to the strong support of shareholders, including the strategic alliance reached with real estate developers.
On the sixth anniversary of the Golden Arch, McDonald's restaurants have also become increasingly green. It is reported that out of 5400 restaurants, there are 2200 LEED green restaurants, which is the largest in McDonald's global system, with an annual carbon reduction of about 60000 tons. It has also built the first LEED certified "zero carbon restaurant" in Asia. McDonald's China continues to promote sustainable supply chain development, using 100% sunflower canola oil, 100% cod certified by the Marine Management Committee, 100% coffee beans certified by the Rainforest Alliance, and 100% chicken feed soybeans certified by the Responsible Soybean Roundtable. All restaurants use FSC sustainable forest certified base paper for 100% paper packaging, and non degradable plastic straws are 100% discontinued.
