How is the progress of Shanghai's first underground parking garage constructed using vertical shield tunneling technology? The reporter learned today from the "Government Open Month" event of the Shanghai Road Transport Management Bureau that the first domestically produced vertical shaft boring machine used in the project went through procedures such as origin shipment and local assembly, and was lowered into the well for debugging in mid June this year. Trial excavation began in mid July. At present, the No.1 shaft has been excavated to a depth of 22 meters, and the overall project is planned to be completed and put into trial operation within this year.
The project is located in the 058d-01 plot of Daning Street, Jing'an District. Utilizing the underground space of the green space to be built, using prefabricated vertical shaft excavation technology, it is planned to construct two intelligent mechanical parking garages with 19 underground floors, namely the "sunken well parking garage". It covers an area of 286 square meters and can provide 304 parking spaces, greatly improving the compound utilization rate of land space.

There are a total of 8 entrances and exits on the ground of the garage, and the underground is a steel structure parking level, which adopts tray parking and handling technology and AGV automatic access vehicle technology. After completion and put into use, the "Shanghai Parking" app can be used to provide self-service car reservation and access services, with an average single car access time of about 90 seconds, meeting the requirements for car access during peak hours. "The traditional parking lot, covering an area of 300 square meters, can provide up to 30 parking spaces, while the sunken shaft parking lot is nearly 10 times its size." The project leader of China Railway 15th Bureau told reporters that the excavation diameter of a single vertical shaft in the project is 23.02 meters, which is currently the world's largest diameter vertical shaft, with an excavation depth of about 50.5 meters.
It is reported that in 2023, Shanghai launched a new three-year action plan to optimize parking resources and promote public sentiment. As of the end of July, 25 parking resource optimization projects have been created this year, with 4892 public parking spaces under construction, 1316 new staggered shared parking spaces added, and 6 demonstration smart public parking lots built. By the end of this year, we plan to create 40 parking resource optimization projects, start construction of 6000 public parking spaces, add 2000 staggered shared parking spaces, and build 20 demonstration smart public parking lots. The proportion of building smart road parking lots in the central urban area and other areas will reach 50% and 30% respectively; By the end of 2025, a total of 100 parking resource optimization projects have been created, 15000 public parking spaces have started construction, 5000 new staggered shared parking spaces have been added, and 60 demonstration smart public parking lots have been built, basically achieving full coverage of smart road parking lot construction in this city.
