"The Chinese and Thai families welcome you to Thailand at any time. We are ready for the summer vacation!" On July 6, TanesPetsuwan, deputy director of the National Tourism Administration of Thailand, made a special trip to Hangzhou to welcome Chinese tourists to Thailand during the summer vacation. Combined with the needs of tourists to save worry, effort and money when traveling abroad, Alipay's outbound travel service has been comprehensively innovated this summer. The number of merchants accessing Alipay worldwide has increased to 5 million. Chinese tourists can take a taxi in more than 2000 cities overseas. A series of discounts and services such as "Global Money Saving" will also be launched in conjunction with overseas local businesses.
With the restart of the country, since the first half of this year, Chinese tourists have gone from watching to going out, and outbound travel has slowly recovered. The latest data show that from January to June this year, the per capita consumption of Alipay users traveling abroad increased by 24% compared with the same period in 2019. In terms of the number of transaction users, the top ten cities for outbound tourists are Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, Hangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai, Chengdu and Wuhan. Among them, the per capita outbound travel consumption of Shanghai tourists increased the most, an increase of 68% compared with the same period in 2019, and occupied the first place in the total amount of outbound travel transactions and the number of transactions.
In terms of transaction volume, the top ten outbound travel destinations in the first half of this year are: Hong Kong, China, Macau, Japan, Thailand, France, South Korea, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Singapore. According to the latest data released by the National Tourism Administration of Thailand, Thailand has received more than 140 million Chinese tourists this year. TanesPetsuwan said: "Chinese tourists have injected momentum into the recovery of Thailand's tourism industry. Thailand will take more measures to provide tourists with a safer and better quality travel experience, and use technology and innovation to promote the digital upgrading of Thailand's tourism industry."
Tasting local cuisine, offering unique services, and receiving local discounts have also become the primary needs for Chinese people to restart outbound tourism. In the 2023 summer outbound travel upgrade service newly announced by Alipay, the content of personalized and localized products has increased significantly, running through consumers' pre travel, in travel and post travel.
Huang Ying, general manager of Alipay+offline merchant service of Ant Group, said that Alipay, together with governments of all countries, has launched one-stop landing visa service for tourists who need to queue up for visas before leaving. The amount of Alipay app "Thailand e-visa" applet used during the May Day holiday is 4.6 times that of ordinary times. During the trip, Alipay can not only ensure the real-time transparency of the exchange rate for each purchase, but also launch a special discount for the black diamond exchange rate for the summer. As of the end of June this year, Alipay's outbound travel services have covered more than 70 countries and regions, and can provide real-time tax refund services in airports and urban duty-free stores in more than 40 countries.
"We hope to provide Chinese tourists with a worry free, effortless, and cost-effective outbound travel experience." Huang Ying said that when tourists go abroad, a series of treasure mini programs can greatly reduce the sense of unfamiliarity when going out. For example, in view of the high frequency demand of outbound travel, Alipay cooperates with Thailand's taxi software to launch a discount, and Chinese tourists can use familiar software to taxi; In Europe, most trains, buses, airport express lines, subways and buses will soon be able to use Alipay's QR code e-tickets.

In Thailand, Alipay has access to more than 550000 offline merchants, covering 77 provinces in Thailand. On May 19th, three electronic wallets, including Alipay HK in Hong Kong, Touch'n Go in Malaysia, and KakaoPay in South Korea, were able to make QR code payments in Thailand through Alipay+services. At the same time, some overseas tourists can also use familiar software to connect the payment process during their travels in China through the access of these platforms.
In addition, in response to the recent feedback from tourists that some Chinese tourists who want to travel to Thailand were accidentally injured in the process of rectifying the gray and black tourism industry in Thailand, TanesPetsuwan said that at present, more than 70% of Chinese tourists to Thailand use electronic landing visa to enter Thailand, and 30% of the tourists belong to teams, conferences and exhibition groups.
"We have learned from many sources about some of the difficulties and problems in applying for Thai visas, and have maintained docking and communication with the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Embassy and Consulate in China. The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it will provide us with the greatest convenience and assistance." The TanesPetsuwan said that if Chinese tourists have any problems or difficulties in applying for visas, they can contact the five major offices of the National Tourism Administration of Thailand in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming and Chengdu. The areas under the jurisdiction of the offices will further communicate and deal with the consulates and relevant competent units, and try their best to provide convenience for tourists.
