Promoting the transformation of elderly care and disability assistance, Shanghai has added 500 accessible low floor buses this year | Vehicles | Shanghai
As of the end of June 2023, Shanghai has put into operation more than 7000 low floor buses with accessibility functions, covering 127 bus routes. The reporter learned from the Municipal Road Transport Bureau today that this year, 500 new low floor buses with accessibility functions have been included in the "Shanghai Municipal Public Service Project" and the "Municipal Party Committee Public Opinion Project". Optimize and improve the appearance identification and standardized processes of vehicles, and promote the transformation of urban elderly and disabled areas.
Accessible buses adopt first level steps, and the middle door of the vehicle is equipped with a flip board for boarding and alighting, making it convenient for wheelchair vehicles to pass through. Independent fixed parking areas are also set up.
Combined with the electronic air suspension system, the vehicle can control the height of the middle door for lifting and lowering. When stopping, the entrance height can be further reduced by 80 millimeters. For some road conditions, setting ordinary stops can further reduce the height difference between the door steps and the platform.
For the convenience of passenger identification, accessibility signs are installed on the front road signs, rear passenger doors, and accessible areas inside the carriage.
In addition, the new version of the 2023 Shanghai Public Bus and Tram Passenger Transport Service Standards has standardized the services of drivers and passengers. When encountering passengers in wheelchairs, the driver of an accessible vehicle should provide accessibility services, including inquiring about the passenger's destination, activating the body lifting function, assisting the passenger in boarding through the wheelchair guide, assisting the passenger in securing the wheelchair and tying the seat belt after boarding, and repeating the operation to assist the passenger in disembarking upon arrival at the destination.
