Multiple areas in Shanghai have suddenly inspected supermarkets and Japanese restaurants, and ten regions in Japan have also banned food. China has suspended the import of Japanese aquatic products for dining and food
The Japanese government ignored strong questioning and opposition from the international community and unilaterally initiated the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea today. China Sea has successively issued bans on importing Japanese food in July and today.
In order to prevent the export of Japanese food contaminated by radioactivity to China and ensure the food safety of Chinese consumers, market regulatory authorities have recently launched targeted law enforcement inspections, focusing on investigating whether there are any prohibited imports of Japanese food or its use as raw materials in the production and processing of food in the market.
The Jiefang Daily Shangguan News reporter learned today that the market supervision departments of Xuhui, Minhang, Fengxian, Jinshan and other districts have conducted a comprehensive investigation into the potential risks and hidden dangers of imported food in the food circulation, catering and other links within their jurisdiction, with a focus on inspecting supermarkets and catering service units involved in importing Japanese food.

Today, the General Administration of Customs issued a notice on the comprehensive suspension of imports of Japanese aquatic products, deciding to suspend imports of aquatic products originating from Japan from today onwards. After the announcement was released, the Market Supervision Bureau of Xuhui District immediately organized a law enforcement inspection on imported Japanese food.
At Ganghui Henglong Plaza, law enforcement officers from the Xujiahui Market Supervision Office conducted a surprise inspection of Ole's supermarket and two Japanese restaurants, Serezheng and Crab Road Li Er Duo Shi. They demanded certification and invoicing for the imported food and raw materials they operated, mainly checking the origin, customs declaration form, and inspection and quarantine certificate of these foods. No prohibited food was found.
"In addition to inspecting the latest banned Japanese seafood products, food from 10 counties including Fukushima, which were banned in July this year, should also be carefully inspected. From the date of the ban, food from these regions is not allowed to enter China." Du Penghui, Deputy Director of the Xujiahui Market Supervision Office, introduced that these 10 counties in Japan are Fukushima Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Koki Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Niigata Prefecture, Nagano Prefecture, Qiyu Prefecture, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and Chiba Prefecture.

Before the comprehensive ban on importing Japanese aquatic products today, Chinese customs had strengthened the review of accompanying certification documents for food, especially aquatic products from other regions of Japan, strictly implemented 100% inspection, and continued to strengthen the detection and monitoring of radioactive substances. In daily inspections of the domestic market, market regulatory authorities also strictly inspect corresponding inspection and quarantine certificates and other documents.
This afternoon, the Meilong Market Supervision Office in Minhang District conducted an inspection on the sales of imported Japanese food in its jurisdiction. Law enforcement officers arrived at a large fresh food supermarket and did not find any imported Japanese seafood. Subsequently, law enforcement officers conducted inspections on imported Japanese snacks and alcoholic beverages. The outer packaging of the goods was labeled in Chinese, and the customs declaration documents were fully preserved. No sales of food prohibited by Chinese customs were found.
Law enforcement officers have promoted imported food safety knowledge, laws and regulations to businesses, and warned them to purchase goods from legitimate channels, strictly fulfill their obligation to obtain certificates and invoices, and strictly prohibit the sale of goods prohibited by Chinese customs from being imported.

Experts from the Shanghai Food and Drug Safety Office remind consumers to pay attention when purchasing imported food from Japan. For general trade imported food, they can choose through the "three looks" method.
Check if imported pre packaged foods have Chinese labels. Regular imported pre packaged foods all have Chinese labels.
The second step is to look at the "ID card" of imported food, which means requesting the dealer to check the inspection and quarantine certificate issued by the customs, which details the name, origin, production date, brand and other information of the imported food.

Three check the admission status of imported food, log in to the website of the General Administration of Customs to check whether the relevant food has been admitted. Only specific products from specific countries and regions that have been evaluated and approved for import by China can enter the country.
Yesterday, the Shanyang Market Supervision Office in Jinshan District also conducted a surprise inspection of supermarkets and Japanese food stores in its jurisdiction. During the inspection, law enforcement officers found that a certain imported Japanese food product did not indicate its specific origin. They immediately requested the supermarket manager to provide documents such as the import goods declaration form. Finally, it was found that the origin of the product is not within the prohibited import range and meets the sales requirements.
Law enforcement officers stated that this situation is not uncommon in inspections. Although some imported food labels indicate the origin of Japan, they are not specific to the county level and require further verification by requesting customs declaration documents and other documents. Ordinary consumers need to know the specific origin, which incurs higher communication costs. However, in order to protect their legitimate rights and interests such as the right to know, they should not be afraid of trouble and confidently seek certification and invoices from operators.

The market supervision department stated that in response to the issue of unclear origin, it will focus on organizing law enforcement forces to increase inspection efforts on high-risk operators such as imported food supermarkets, specialty stores, and e-commerce platforms. They are required to immediately carry out internal investigations, identify specific origins, clean up and destroy prohibited imported food. Once any illegal or irregular behavior is found, it will be strictly investigated and dealt with in accordance with the law.
If consumers only discover after purchasing that the origin of the food is within the prohibited area announced by China's customs, they must remember not to discard the packaging of the goods and keep it as evidence. They can complain and report to the market supervision department by calling 12315, 12345 hotline, and other channels.
