Let's see how Shanghai explores problem-solving, but the number of skilled old craftsmen is limited, and more and more historical buildings need to be repaired. Digitalization | Architecture | Craftsmen
Repairing old buildings is a meticulous task that requires experienced craftsmen to pass it on hand. But now, there are 1058 excellent historical buildings in Shanghai, totaling five batches, with a large quantity and a wide area. Relying solely on manpower to repair and maintain them is far from enough. How to solve this pain point?
Today is the 18th Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. The reporter learned from the joint main event organized by the Municipal Housing and Urban Rural Development Commission, the Municipal Housing Management Bureau, and the Hongkou District People's Government on "Continuing the Historical Context and Improving Urban Quality" that Shanghai is promoting the digital transformation pilot of excellent historical building management to solve the problem of insufficient repair manpower.
More and more excellent historical buildings will be equipped with intelligent sensors. The reporter learned from the Shanghai Housing Management Bureau that old buildings using intelligent sensors will collaborate with the Shanghai Fine Management Platform and Urban Management Department to incorporate violations actively detected during monitoring into grid based closed-loop management, improving the efficiency of detection and disposal.
At the same time, based on the results of the real 3D surveying and mapping of the second facade of the Bund, we will promote the real 3D surveying and mapping of excellent historical buildings in the city, explore the construction of a digital management platform for excellent historical buildings, integrate digital surveying and mapping results, intelligent monitoring equipment applications, annual survey and evaluation results analysis, gradually form approval points, digital data services, and assist in the scheme approval of the joint review platform, making the full life cycle protection and management of excellent historical buildings more standardized and standardized.
In actual cases of old building restoration, the application of digital technology has achieved significant results. Gu Zhiwang, Deputy Chief Engineer of Shanghai Construction Fourth Construction Group Co., Ltd., introduced that the digital twin and intelligent perception technology of historical buildings can achieve scientific and refined repair, and achieve full lifecycle management.
"Using artificial intelligence and digital detection technology to detect its' genes', such as the size and color ratio of the stone particles in terrazzo. Previously, to restore a terrazzo, we needed to do at least dozens of adaptations and very experienced teachers. Now, a photo can generate the ratio in just a few minutes, and workers can make small samples without the need for experienced teachers with decades of experience," he said.
The 13 excellent historical buildings in Zhangyuan District have undergone regular physical examinations using the digital twin platform. Li Jiajun, Vice Chairman of Huajian Shuchuang Technology Co., Ltd., said, "The digital twin archive, one file at a time, records the entire history of Zhangyuan. Enlarged to Shanghai, all excellent historical buildings need to establish a three-dimensional visible archive, forming a comprehensive management platform for digital twins that can be seen, controlled, checked, and even predict potential risks in the future."
While exploring digital applications, Shanghai will continue to protect and repair, enhancing the regional landscape. Based on the investigation and evaluation conclusions, form a list of repair suggestions. Gradually establish a rotation, supervision, and notification system, promote the implementation of protection responsibilities, and improve the level of protection and utilization of excellent historical buildings. Promote overall renovation projects in areas such as Nanchang Road in Huangpu District, Shanyin Road in Hongkou District, Xuhui District Conservatory of Music, and 670 Yangshupu Road Water Plant in Yangpu District, combining functional updates and revitalization to recreate the historical landscape.
The concept of repair is also undergoing changes, becoming more focused on the "inside". In the past, the focus of renovating residential historical buildings was mostly on their appearance, such as painting walls, flipping tiles and changing windows to make them more beautiful. However, common problems such as water leakage and blocked pipes in old houses always recur. Jiang Jiang, Deputy Director of the Housing Management Bureau of Xuhui District, stated that the direction of renovation in the future is to focus on both the interior and exterior, with a greater emphasis on the "interior". "Repairing old houses should not only focus on the exterior walls, but also on the beautiful and new ones. The problem of aging pipelines in old houses is prominent, and we did not pay enough attention to this aspect in the past. Next, we will first implement the livelihood issues that the people demand to be solved, and in this regard, we need to increase the efforts of renovation and respond to the demands of the people in a timely manner.".
