Is the mineral water inside the high-temperature overhead crane toxic? Will drinking it and then exposing it to sunlight breed bacteria? Shanghai Consumer Protection Commission found during testing that... mineral water bottles | status | toxic
In the hot summer, many car owners will put some mineral water in their cars. Some people are concerned that the high temperature inside the car may cause the mineral water to spoil, decompose plastics, and dissolve plasticizers into the water. There are even rumors online that exposed mineral water is toxic. Are these claims reliable?
To understand the truth, the Shanghai Consumer Protection Commission purchased three common brands of mineral water, simulated the temperature inside the car in summer, and conducted relevant tests on the exposed mineral water.
Firstly, simulate the temperature inside the car in summer, place the mineral water in a constant temperature and humidity box, observe the sensory properties of the mineral water, test for harmful substances, and conduct a decolorization test on colored mineral water bottles.
As a result, it was found that the state, color, taste, and odor of the mineral water did not change, and no ortho benzene substances and heavy metals were detected. There was also no pigment pollution in the colored mineral water bottle.
It is reported that qualified mineral water bottle materials on the market are all made of PET. PET is a high-temperature resistant material, and the temperature inside the car in summer will not cause harmful substances to precipitate. So, as long as the bottle body is intact and within its shelf life, there is no change in the sensory perception of water.
So, can mineral water stored in the trunk of a vehicle for a long time be drunk? This test simulated the high temperature and enclosed environment of the vehicle trunk in summer. Mineral water was stored in the simulated environment for 14 days for corresponding testing. It was found that the sensory perception of mineral water did not change and no harmful substances were detected.
Many people are also concerned that water that has been consumed and exposed to sunlight can breed bacteria. To simulate this situation, the testers drank some water by mouth and placed the remaining mineral water in the simulated environment. They tested the microbial content immediately and 3 days later, and found that the total number of colonies did not increase significantly after 3 days.
"This is because mineral water does not have too many nutrients, so there are almost no bacterial colonies in the water. After being exposed to sunlight, the water temperature is high, and the microorganisms in the mineral water are not easy to grow. Therefore, there is no need to worry about the unhygienic mineral water you have drunk." The Municipal Consumer Protection Commission stated that according to the test results, mineral water placed in cars in summer generally does not spoil, nor does it precipitate harmful substances, so you can drink it with confidence.
