From takeoff to landing, the entire process is interconnected between air and ground, and Wi Fi in the air breaks through the limit of less than 3000 meters. Fi | Use | Wi
"The plane's wheels take off and off the ground, and Wi Fi in the air can be used..." Recently, China Eastern Airlines' leading "Wi Fi in the air" service has made a new breakthrough, becoming the first in China to achieve open use below 3000 meters. Passengers can use their phones and other PEDs throughout the entire flight from takeoff to landing, enjoying internet access in the air and being "online" at any time.
According to the relevant person in charge of China Eastern Airlines, since 2014, China Eastern Airlines has successively completed the modification and introduction of 104 wide body aircraft for air ground interconnection. Its interconnected fleet size, number of flights, and number of users all rank first in China and leading in Asia. Especially in 2021, China Eastern Airlines completed the first commercial flight experience flight of the Asia Pacific 6D satellite high-speed network in China, achieving "internet access in the air is as fast as at home". After that, air to ground connectivity services have become increasingly popular among passengers due to their high speed and quality, allowing them to easily work, watch TV shows, shop online, and chat videos on the plane
Prior to this, due to limitations in technology and other factors, the air ground interconnection system on the aircraft had to reach an altitude of over 3000 meters before it could be put into use. In the stage below 3000 meters, the aircraft is generally in the takeoff and landing stages at this altitude, with a duration of about 15 minutes, which is precisely the time when passengers have a high demand for internet access. In order to break through this limitation, China Eastern Airlines, together with partners such as Air Ground Interconnection Company, has made breakthroughs in technology, operations, and other aspects with the support of regulatory authorities.
As of August 4th, China Eastern Airlines has completed the renovation and upgrading of the air ground interconnection system for 21 wide body aircraft, and on July 28th recently, it completed the first test flight of the entire air ground interconnection service from takeoff to landing in China, with a good online experience. It is reported that China Eastern Airlines plans to accelerate its pace and complete hardware and software upgrades for all wide body aircraft in the future.
The reporter learned that in addition to China Eastern Airlines, Jixiang Airlines also completed various device updates and verification tests on HO1077 flight on August 4th to cancel the 3000 meter Wi Fi usage restriction. They plan to complete the Wi Fi device renovation and testing for a total of 6 787 Dreamliner planes by the end of August.
