China Shipbuilding Group has received another new ship order from South Korean shipowners, South Korea | Purpose | Order
Recently, China Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Co., Ltd., jointly obtained construction orders for four 38000 ton multi-purpose heavy lifting vessels from South Korea's Hanxin Shipping Co., Ltd. This is another time that China Shipbuilding Group has won orders from the backyard of South Korean shipping companies.
In the global new ship market, competition between Chinese and Korean shipping companies has become increasingly fierce. Especially in the booming markets of large liquefied natural gas transport ships, dual fuel container ships, and automobile transport ships in recent years, the competition between the two countries' enterprises is quite intense. In this context, China Shipbuilding Group, with its independent research and development, design, manufacturing, supporting and full cycle service capabilities, has successively received orders from South Korean shipowners for 17 ships, including 210000 tons of dual fuel powered bulk carriers, multi-purpose heavy-duty cranes, 7000 vehicles, and 8600 vehicle transport ships.
Stimulating demand through ship design
The reporter found that these orders from South Korea are mostly focused on ship types independently designed by various research institutes of China Shipbuilding Corporation. For example, the new generation of green and environmentally friendly multi-purpose high-end heavy-duty crane ships undertaken by Huangpu Wenchong this time are independently developed by Shanghai Shipbuilding Research and Design Institute, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Group. This type of ship, with its flexible loading capacity, spacious deck loading area, and superior green and environmentally friendly economic performance, has attracted the favor of many shipowners, including South Korea and Europe, as soon as it was put into the market.
The relevant person in charge of the Shanghai Shipyard stated that currently, the overall aging situation of the global multi-purpose fleet is highlighted. Benefiting from the global trend of offshore wind power construction and the diversification of business undertaken by shipping companies, the current market demand for heavy lifting vessels, especially those with a single crane lifting capacity of over 150 tons, continues to grow. It is precisely based on the keen capture of this market trend that Shanghai Shipyard tailored a globally leading 38000 ton multi-purpose heavy lift vessel for HMM's personalized needs, ultimately allowing this order to be spent on China Shipbuilding Group.
Of course, the keen judgment on the ship type market is not innate, but gradually cultivated by technical research and development personnel through long-term practice, continuous accumulation, learning, and communication with ship owners. "More than a decade ago, the Shanghai Shipyard began to lay out automobile transport ships, and at that time, the standards were all formulated by Japanese companies. We have been following suit for so many years, strengthening our technical reserves and tracking, and gradually establishing our own technical standards and talent team." The relevant technical personnel of the Shanghai Shipyard said that when they communicated with the technical personnel of a famous Japanese shipowner, the Japanese side was greatly impressed by the refinement of the design drawings of the institute. In fact, it is precisely because of its emphasis on design details that the institute has helped Chinese shipping companies win orders from Japan and South Korea.
At present, Shanghai Shipyard has successfully developed and designed a batch of new types of automobile transport ships, including 7000 parking spaces, 7800 parking spaces, 8600 parking spaces, etc. At the same time, it has also launched the world's largest 9400 car dual fuel power automobile transport ship with fully independent intellectual property rights, and China's first 7000 car ammonia fuel power automobile transport ship. The Shanghai Shipyard holds over 70% of the global market share in orders for automobile transport ships, and its designed automobile transport ships have almost become the "first choice" for shipowners in the global new ship market.
Touching shipowners with marketing services
As the main platform and channel for the operation of China Shipbuilding Group, China Shipbuilding Trade also plays an important role in competing for orders from South Korea. According to relevant personnel from the company, with the help of the good relationship established between the two parties during the negotiation process of signing the contract for 8600 car transport ships, China Shipbuilding Trade has taken the initiative to launch this attack. Through follow-up visits and exchanges, it has been learned that HMM has new demands for multi-purpose ships.
HMM is a globally renowned shipping company, with container ship capacity ranking among the top among major shipping companies in the world. However, the company has also been expanding its fleet of special transport ships recently, and the 38000 ton heavy lift multi-purpose ship ordered this time is the first ship type involved by the company.
After fully understanding the relevant information, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) established a project team consisting of design, construction, and operation personnel under the overall coordination of the Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Department of China Shipbuilding Corporation. In response to the needs of HMM and the new trend of configuring large cranes and heavy lifting vessels in the market, on the one hand, the overall design institute should focus on tackling ship type design; On the other hand, with Huangpu Wenchong's rich experience in the field of special ship construction, improvements and optimizations have been made to the construction plan.
At the same time, China Shipbuilding Trade also gave full play to its own advantages, adopted the "one-to-one" business strategy, timely grasped the dynamic needs of shipowners, built a bridge between shipowners and design institutes and shipyards, and transformed the design awesome, shipyard strength, and operation power into a combined force to win orders, achieving twice the result with half the effort. The relevant scheme made Korean shipowners hit the spot, so that China Shipbuilding Group won orders in the Korean market again.
