Academicians pay attention to how to build smart ships in the future, and China's first white paper on the development of smart ships is released: Intelligent | Industry | Ships
How should the industry develop with the development of intelligent ships? On July 6, the "AI Enabling Ocean"-Autonomous Ships Leading the Future and the 2023 China Intelligent Ship Innovation Alliance High-end Academic Forum was held at the Zhangjiang Branch of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, where experts and guests shared their observations on the development of the industry.
Lin Zhongqin, an academician of the CAE Member, proposed that the development of the smart ship industry, on the one hand, is the intelligence of ship products, and on the other hand, is the intelligence of ship construction and the whole process. China has a large shipbuilding scale, but its efficiency is lower than that of Japan and South Korea, mainly due to more extensive management, more single ship working hours, and high labor costs. It is worth studying how to change the current situation of the industry through mechanization, automation, and intelligence.
Wu Yousheng, an academician of the CAE Member, also believes that smart ships are not the same as unmanned ships, and are related to the digital transformation and upgrading of the entire shipbuilding industry and shipping industry. It is necessary to analyze the entire industrial chain of Chinese shipbuilding and find out where the focus is to fill the gaps and strengthen.
"It's not necessary to cover everything, just a few key points. For example, China is a shipbuilding country now, but our focus is on shipbuilding shells, and the internal power system is mainly owned by others, but the part with the highest added value is precisely that part. This needs to bring the entire supporting industry of the country to achieve. In addition, it is recommended to strengthen the deep integration and collaborative research and development of industry, academia, research and application, with intelligent ships as the core and intelligent technology as the core, to promote the digital transformation and intelligent upgrading of China's shipbuilding industry, and achieve high-quality development." Wu Yousheng said.
Yan Xinping, an academician of the CAE Member, said that the current intelligent system is to add equipment on the basis of existing ships, which can be said to be in the primary stage of the development of intelligent ships. Considering practical needs and technological development support, the trend of unmanned transportation ships is inevitable.
"At present, we can obtain a large amount of data through the installation of various intelligent systems, and through this accumulated big data, we can better think about the design of future intelligent ships. Future intelligent ships will have a new system based on robot systems. After the crew gradually moves from the ship end to the shore base, the design specifications and structural form of the ship will change." Yan Xinping said, "We need to think and make decisions in the process of continuous accumulation and development of technology."
At the forum, the Intelligent Ship Branch of the China Shipbuilding Industry Association was unveiled and established in Shanghai. The branch will promote independent innovation and development in the field of intelligent ships in the shipbuilding industry, provide a platform for technological exchange and cooperation, build an intelligent ship ecosystem, and enhance China's international discourse power and competitiveness in the field of intelligent ships.
In addition, the 2023 edition of the "White Paper on the Development of Intelligent Ships - Oceangoing Ships" led by Shanghai Shipbuilding Research and Design Institute has also been released. This is the first white paper in the industry that focuses on the development of intelligent ships. The white paper clarifies the future development needs of intelligent ships and proposes technological and industrial development goals.
