Designed by the famous French architect Paul Andreu, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center looks like a blooming Phalaenopsis. Paul Andreu is not only the designer of more than 50 large airports around the world, including Charles de Gaulle Airport in France and Terminal 1 of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, but he is also the designer of well-known cultural buildings such as the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
Fu Guohua, professor at the School of Architecture at McGill University in Canada and chief designer of KFS Architects, brought his carefully created sculpture. He said: "As an architect, it is important to present dramatic themes in the Oriental Art Center, a palace of architectural art. Sculpture combines architecture, drama, and sculpture to complement each other and pay tribute to this remarkable building."
The drama group's sculpture "Golden Home" is displayed in the central area of Dongyi Hall. The theme is derived from "The Story of River Valley No. 3", the first of Fu Guohua's series of musicals. The play tells the story of three 16-year-old boys who were born on the same day and month in the same year. They met by chance in the river valley. They celebrated their birthdays together and made a vow to reunite in the river valley ten years later. It expressed the vision of future architects, sculptors and musicians for tomorrow and their inspirational spirit. story.
Fu Guohua, who was born in Shanghai, has a deep affection for Shanghai and has designed many architectural works for this city, such as Da'an Garden, Shanghai Bund Garden House, River Valley No. 3, etc. In 2021, he won the Shanghai "Magnolia Memorial Award". In his opinion, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, as a well-known artistic landmark, will have a deeper understanding if architects create dramatic sculptures for it. "Architecture, drama and sculpture are art forms that are full of movement and stillness. We hope that our cities will have warmth and the buildings will have souls, stories and be readable. In the same way, our dramatic sculptures are conceived based on the highlights of theatrical performances. The moment that touches the audience, it also has a story, can be read, and can be imagined." Fu Guohua said that everyone has a different understanding of sculpture at different times and in different moods. "It may be. It will make you cry, and may make your emotions fly, just like modern dance. This is the charm of dramatic sculpture.”
The theater is not only a performing arts space where performing arts works are gathered, but also a display space for public culture and art. Through annual performance seasons, original productions, audience art enjoyment days and social aesthetic education Activities, etc., combine regular exhibitions with special exhibitions to allow the audience to feel, experience and appreciate beauty in the cross-border integration of multiple arts.
