On July 4th, the first trial of the bribery case involving Huang Yi, former member of the Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was publicly announced. Huang Yi was sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined 3 million yuan. The property and fruits obtained from his bribery were also recovered in accordance with the law and turned over to the national treasury.
The court found that from 2001 to 2022, Huang Yi took advantage of his positions as Secretary of the Baoshan Municipal Party Committee, Secretary General of the Yunnan Provincial Government, Standing Committee Member and Minister of the United Front Work Department of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Political Consultative Conference to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in engineering contracting, project approval, enterprise operation, and other matters. He illegally received property from others, totaling more than RMB 34.95 million.
The Chongqing Intermediate People's Court, which tried this case, believed that Huang Yi's behavior constituted the crime of bribery, with a particularly large amount. At the same time, the court also revealed that Huang Yi truthfully confessed his crimes after arriving at the case, voluntarily confessed to some of the bribery crimes that the supervisory authorities had not yet mastered, pleaded guilty and repented, actively returned the stolen goods, and all the stolen funds and goods have been recovered. Huang Yi just stepped down from his position as Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in January last year, and was reported to have been dismissed on March 24th. He, who is 65 years old this year, has been working in Yunnan since he started working. In his early years, he was a rural educated youth in Longchuan County, Yunnan. Afterwards, he served as the Deputy Governor of Dehong Prefecture, Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Secretary of the Baoshan Municipal Party Committee, Secretary General and Party Member of the Yunnan Provincial Government, and Party Secretary of the Provincial Government Office. In 2006, at the age of 48, he became a member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and served as the Minister of the United Front Work Department. In 2017, he served as the Vice Chairman of the Provincial Political Consultative Conference until his resignation in January last year.
