Due to feeling too much pressure to repay the loan after buying a house, Li, born in the 2000s, reached out to the safe of the company he worked for. Recently, after being prosecuted by the People's Procuratorate of Baoshan District, Shanghai, the court sentenced Li to 3 years in prison, suspended for 3 years, and fined 3000 yuan for theft.
In 2018, Li came to Shanghai to work and was introduced by a friend to work as a waiter at a restaurant. Due to his hard work, Li was appreciated by his superiors. Two years later, he worked as a cashier at the Hongkou chain store of the hotel. Soon after, he transferred to the Baoshan headquarters and worked as a cashier for four stores.
When at the headquarters, Li and the finance manager Xu had a lot of work contact, and each of them had an office. Due to frequent outings, Xu sometimes handed over his office keys to Li, who took the opportunity to secretly match one. In August 2022, a new cashier named Zhao was appointed to the headquarters. According to work arrangements, Li changed his office and handed over two of the four stores he was previously responsible for. He also handed over the keys and passwords to his own office and the safe in the office to Zhao.
In January this year, Li bought a commercial house in his hometown of Jiangsu. According to him, carrying a 900000 yuan commercial loan often felt too much pressure, so he came up with the idea of Zhao's office safe. As a cashier, he knows there must be money stored in the safe at the end of the month. Afterwards, he brought 60000 yuan back to his hometown in Jiangsu, and the other 20000 yuan was kept in his office as daily expenses.
A few days later, Xu discovered that the money had been stolen. During the on-site investigation, the police discovered Li, who was in a panic, and confiscated the stolen money. The stolen unit expressed its understanding towards Li. After examination, the Baoshan Procuratorate found that Li secretly stole public and private property for the purpose of illegal possession, with a huge amount of money, clear criminal facts, and sufficient evidence. Therefore, he was prosecuted for theft.
