Zheng Hong, who retired in 2018, is the "first tiger" to fall from grace after the conclusion of this year's National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He was born in May 1955 in Jiangjin, Chongqing. He is a graduate student at the Central Party School, a senior economist, and a senior political worker. His work experience mainly focuses on Chongqing, having previously governed multiple districts and counties in Chongqing. He has successively held positions such as Deputy Secretary of the Jiangjin Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of the Dazu County Party Committee, Secretary of the Hechuan Municipal Party Committee, Deputy Secretary and District Mayor of the Jiulongpo District Party Committee, and Secretary of the Jiulongpo District Party Committee.
Zheng Hong has been working in Jiulongpo District for nearly 8 years. During this time, a demolition incident in Jiulongpo District received much attention in 2007, and the parties involved were known as the "toughest nail households in history", becoming a hot topic on the internet. Zheng Hong, then Secretary of the Jiulongpo District Committee, also intervened and had in-depth communication with the parties involved. Zheng Hong once said in a media interview, "Officials have gone through a process of disdain, delay, shock, and passive intervention towards the internet, and many of their experiences and lessons are worth summarizing.".
In 2008, Zheng Hong was appointed as the Deputy Director and Party Member of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress. In 2012, Zheng Hong served as the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress and a member of the Party Group, concurrently serving as the Chairman of the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions. In December 2015, 60 year old Zheng Hong was appointed as the Deputy Secretary of the Party Group of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress. Resigned in January 2018 until being investigated this year.
After Zheng Hong fell from his horse, there was still a tiger falling from his horse in Chongqing. On May 11th this year, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission announced that Xiong Xue, a member of the Chongqing Municipal Government Party Group and former deputy mayor, is under investigation for serious violations of discipline and law.
