37 people caught, selling medicine at high prices, Shanghai police sabotage "medical care" fraud gang: deceiving patients to visit traditional Chinese medicine hospitals | medical care | gang
"Auntie, are you going to take care of your body? I know a doctor who is very professional..." When registering for medical treatment at the hospital, I met a "kind-hearted person" who recommended doctors with excellent medical skills and cheap fees, which may be a "medical care". The Pudong police have dismantled a "medical care" fraud gang circulating around major hospitals.
Recently, Pudong police have received reports of multiple cases of "medical daycare" fraud occurring around major hospitals in the Lujiazui area. The investigating authority introduced that multiple victims encountered "kind-hearted people" who approached them while seeking medical treatment, and introduced them to retired experts from a well-known hospital who worked at a certain traditional Chinese medicine clinic. The victim believed it to be true and went to a certain traditional Chinese medicine clinic for treatment. They purchased expensive medicinal herbs or liquids, but the effect was not obvious after use. Afterwards, they found out that the medicinal herbs and liquids they purchased were "cheap goods".
In response to such cases, the Lujiazui Public Security Department of Pudong Public Security Bureau, together with the Criminal Investigation Detachment, has established a special task force with police stations such as Meiyuan New Village, Tangqiao, Zhoujiadu, Shanggang, and Century Square to fully carry out investigations. On July 27, the special case team carried out a centralized network collection operation in Jing'an, Yangpu, Baoshan and other districts of the city, destroyed the "medical care" fraud gang led by Yi and Deng, and arrested 37 suspect.
The investigating agency found that the "medical care" group had a clear division of labor: some people were responsible for making up conversations, chatting with victims who came to see them near major hospitals, falsely claiming that a well-known traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who had retired from a key hospital was seeing them, and deceiving the victims into going to a specific traditional Chinese medicine clinic; Some people pretend to be "famous doctors" and are responsible for diagnosing and treating people, issuing traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions, and then having "medical assistants" prescribe medicinal materials or liquids that are much higher than the market price, which are sent to the victims through pharmacies.
In fact, the so-called "famous doctors" do not have the experience of seeing patients in key hospitals, they are only ordinary physicians holding medical qualifications, and the prices of traditional Chinese medicine they prescribe are far higher than the market price, with a price difference of more than ten times.
At present, 34 suspect, led by Yi and Deng, have been detained in accordance with the law for suspected fraud, and 3 others have been taken criminal coercive measures in accordance with the law. The case is under further investigation.
