Trump's corruption is not optimistic! Latest US Poll: Biden "Too Old" Trump | Biden | Poll | US General Election
US President Biden is "too old" and "confused", former President Trump is "corrupt" and "dishonest"... When asked to describe the two candidates who may face off in next year's election, this is the adjective they use the most.
This situation is reflected in a latest poll released by the Associated Press NORC Center for Public Affairs on the 28th, which also indicates that the two potential presidential candidates are not preferred by the public, and their performance has caused dissatisfaction and concern among voters.
"Obsolescence" and "Corruption"
The survey was conducted from August 10th to 14th and surveyed 1165 American adults. The sampling error is plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
The poll raises an open-ended question: what do respondents think when mentioning Biden and Trump.
For Biden, most American adults, including Democrats and Republicans, mention his age. Biden is 80 years old this year, and also the first incumbent president in American history to reach the age of 80. Many Americans are concerned about his ability to perform his duties.
Up to 26% of respondents described Biden as "old" or "outdated," while another 15% mentioned words such as "slow" and "confused.".
In recent years, although Biden has been striving to show the public that his age and health are not a problem, his frequent falls and consecutive slip of the tongue have still raised doubts about his ability to be a president.
Biden's last fall occurred two months ago at the graduation ceremony of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, followed by knocking his head on the door frame while disembarking from the helicopter. However, the medical examination report in February this year stated that Biden is still "healthy" and "energetic", capable of fulfilling his presidential duties.
In contrast, Trump is only 3 years younger than Biden, and respondents have much less concern about his age. Negative comments mainly focus on Trump's morality and behavior.
15% of respondents described Trump as "corrupt" and "dishonest". 11% of people describe him as "bad" and other negative reviews. 8% of respondents believe that Trump is a "scammer" and "dishonest.". In addition, it also includes "loud voice" and "anger". 8% gave positive evaluations of Trump and considered him "good".
Since stepping down as president in 2021, Trump has been criminally charged four times. After surrendering to Fulton County Prison in Georgia and taking photos of the suspect, he will be on trial in Georgia on the 6th of next month.
Meanwhile, the former president, who is plagued by lawsuits, will also face a "busy court schedule" in the 2024 election year, including cases of "sealing fees" and "improper handling of classified documents".
Grandfather and Child
Polls show that only 24% of American respondents hope to see Biden run again, while 30% of respondents hope to see Trump run again. Most people indicate that if two candidates are nominated again, they are unwilling to support them.
Many people from different political factions are willing to see younger, fresher faces, or a combination of both. This can provide the public with space for imagination.
Noah Burton, a 28 year old communications consultant from Alexandria, Virginia, expressed in a poll that she hopes the main contenders for the presidential election will be closer to his generation. "Biden and Trump are generally too old. The older generation represents a 'no longer precise' value system and a perception of the country and the world. This perception can be dangerous."
In addition, 52% and 62% of American respondents respectively hold negative views on Biden and Trump, and both candidates cannot avoid criticism within their own party.
27 year old Democrat and Mississippi security guard Justin Campbell said of Biden, "He looks like a grandfather who needs help and is kind, not someone sitting on the throne of power."
The interviewee had a more negative evaluation of Trump, stating that he "acted like a kindergarten child when others said 'no' to him."
73 year old Republican interviewee Larry Hayes said he doesn't plan to vote for Biden and Trump next year.
Hayes accused Biden of reducing his net cash value by about $150000 due to his economic policies, and now only wishes for the President's retirement. As for Trump, although Hayes said some good things, he also believed that Trump had "typical New York style arrogance.".
Expose and tear each other apart
Polls also reveal familiar ideological differences.
A survey shows that Republicans are more inclined than Democrats to use words like "slow" and "confused" to describe Biden. Other adjectives include "corruption" and "dishonesty", as well as "weakness" and "incompetence".
Democrats are more likely than Republicans to describe Trump as corrupt and dishonest. 7% of Democrats listed "racism" and "paranoia" as their preferred words to describe Trump, which were hardly used by any Republicans in the polls.
Analysis suggests that as the election approaches, the political turmoil in the United States will continue, and the red and blue camps will also expose each other's shortcomings and continue to tear each other apart. The Trump criminal case has become a tool of bipartisan conflict in the United States.
At present, although Trump's lawsuit is entangled, the more trouble he has, the higher his popularity, further widening the gap with other competitors within the party. The Democratic Party may strive to push the court to provide a trial result as soon as possible at some important time points. Although it may not necessarily prevent Trump from running for office, it can cause a blow to his reputation.
For the Democratic Party, the disappointment of the American people with inflation and the poor approval rating of Vice President Harris have become pain points and obstacles. Throughout the summer, the White House has been working hard to turn these political burdens into assets. The Republican Party will inevitably face difficulties on these issues and strive for a favorable situation.
