The VIMC model for eye health originating from Shanghai has been promoted to the Yangtze River Delta, with a 5-minute visual screening at home. Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Control Center | Alliance | Screening
Today is the National Eye Care Day. At the 2023 Second Yangtze River Delta Eye Health Summit of the Yangtze River Delta Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Alliance, the Visual Health Intelligent Management Center completed its global debut after two years of trial operation.
It is reported that VIMC originates from the "community district city" three-level visual health prevention and intervention network and standardized diagnosis and treatment network in Shanghai. Through digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, it empowers the integration of medical prevention and graded diagnosis and treatment, achieves real-time feedback on screening results and medical advice, and accurately implements the classification and management of eye health.
According to data from the Municipal Health Commission, more than 70 community health service centers in the city have launched the "Artificial Intelligence Empowered Community Eye Health Management Pilot", which is based on VIMC. Residents can complete all examinations such as naked eye vision, corrected vision, computer optometry, and fundus photography in just about 5 minutes at the community health service center at their doorstep. With the assistance of artificial intelligence systems for diagnosis, the screening report can be transmitted to a smartphone within 20 seconds. Citizens can also choose follow-up, referral, and self health management based on the report prompts.
Zou Haidong, President of the Yangtze River Delta Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Alliance and President of the Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center, conducted a VIMC roadshow. He introduced that VIMC is a complete set of visual health management service process reengineering based on digital transformation. By connecting the electronic records of resident eye health and the information system of medical and health institutions, the information barrier between eye disease prevention and treatment has been broken down. According to needs, the sharing and updating of resident visual health information among institutions has been achieved, improving the self-management level of resident visual health, improving the quality of suspected patient referrals, dynamically grasping the trend of resident visual health changes, and achieving full cycle follow-up management.
The reporter learned that the VIMC prevention and control experience originating from Shanghai has been promoted to the Yangtze River Delta. Jiangsu Dongtai, Zhejiang Taizhou and other places have reached intention to sign contracts with VIMC for landing.

The first edition of the Innovative Research Guidelines of the Yangtze River Delta Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Alliance was released at the summit. The guide calls on diversified member units of the alliance to break through barriers and jointly carry out in-depth cooperation around new drugs, medical devices, and new technology applications related to visual health. The white paper on intelligent management of visual health in the Yangtze River Delta, the standard project for visual health data sharing technology, and the three-year action plan for cultivating millions of talents have also been launched simultaneously. The alliance will chart a course for the digital transformation of visual health management in the Yangtze River Delta, and jointly launch talent training projects with institutions such as Euclid Vision Group, Euclid Vision Group, and Science and Technology Literature Publishing House to cultivate visual health professional and popular science talents in the Yangtze River Delta region.
On the day of "Eye Care Day", the Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Control Center also collaborated with Jiangning Road Street in Jing'an District to carry out health free clinics and launched the "Bright Eye Care · Eye Care Plan".
Zou Haidong stated that the original intention of the plan is to strengthen the construction of Shanghai's public health system and promote eye health throughout the entire life cycle. The plan will be based on the needs of the people, nurturing the concept of "one old and one small", focusing on caring for the eyes of young people and chronic eye diseases of the elderly, integrating resource advantages, and widely mobilizing medical experts, youth teams, social volunteers and other forces to add power to eye care and contribute to a healthy China and Shanghai. It is reported that the launch plan is for version 1.0, and with the support of various sectors of society, it will be upgraded to version 2.0 or even 3.0 in the future.
