A thousand miles away in southeastern Yunnan - Qiubei County, Yunnan Province, has beautiful scenery and simple folk customs. However, there is a shortage of medical resources and many people are unable to seek medical treatment locally. How can high-quality medical resources be sent to mountainous areas? Seven years ago, the North Campus of Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University signed a paired assistance agreement with the government of Qiubei County and the People's Hospital, and the Youth League Committee of Huashan Hospital launched the "Caiyun Plan" volunteer service. Volunteer service has pioneered a new model of "medical+education" assistance in Shanghai and Yunnan, from providing medical technology to supporting impoverished students and promoting science education.
After seven years, the Huashan North Hospital was reorganized and merged into Huashan Hospital, and the "Caiyun Plan" was not interrupted. During this period, medical youths from Huashan entered the mountains in batches under the organization of the Youth League Committee, bringing health and well-being to the people and igniting the academic dreams of the children in the mountains. Recently, on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the "Caiyun Plan" has once again set out: young doctors lead the way, expert experts assist, and generations of Huashan doctors jointly interpret the spirit of "willing to contribute and not asking questions" of great love.
Funding a student to change the entire family
Since 2016, Huashan Hospital has sent 13 batches of 68 clinical backbone doctors to Qiubei, Yunnan to provide key assistance, effectively enhancing local medical service capabilities. These young doctors are keenly aware of the lack of not only medical technology, but also the hope and opportunity for children to step out of the mountains and change their destiny when paired up for assistance. Mao Shanhua, the Secretary of the Youth League Committee, told reporters that witnessing economic pressure limiting the educational path of Shanliwa and further hindering local development in Qiubei, the Youth League Committee has launched the "Colorful Cloud Plan" volunteer service to help students achieve their dreams and overcome poverty while assisting in medical care.
Helping a student is changing a family. Data shows that over the past seven years, this new model of "medical+education" assistance has traveled to 2 provinces, 6 counties, and 8 townships in Yunnan, raising more than 125000 yuan in donations through charity sales and fundraising, and supporting a total of 15 students in three batches who are both academically and morally outstanding but have family difficulties. Among them, 9 students who participated in the college entrance examination were all admitted to their ideal universities, and the first batch of 4 students who received funding have successfully graduated from university and found employment. Some students are sponsored to attend medical schools, some are preparing for the IELTS exam to become English teachers, and some have already worked in accounting firms... The inspiring spirit and tremendous growth transformation of students are truly touching.

Starting from small details, the "Colorful Cloud Plan" has now reached a considerable scale, with multiple experts participating and contributing their efforts. On June 30th, Professor Zhang Wenhong, the director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Huashan Hospital, and other expert doctors traveled thousands of miles to the Central Primary School in Yuezhe Town, Qiubei County, to jointly launch a new round of the "Colorful Cloud Plan" with young doctors.

Professor Zhang Wenhong interacts with elementary school students in a friendly manner, encouraging them to improve their nutrition, strengthen exercise, and study well, so that they can step out of the mountains and go global in the future. Dr. Cao Ruiqin, the attending physician of obstetrics and gynecology, gave a lecture on adolescent health physiology titled "Love Youth, Take Care of Yourself" to a fifth grade girl; Dr. Ji Xiaoxi, the attending physician of the Sports Medicine Department, trains male students in sports emergency courses, with vivid explanations and fun games that are highly popular. Under the coordination of the 13th batch of medical teams dispatched by Huashan Hospital to aid Yunnan, Shanghai Education Press assisted the "Caiyun Plan" in donating more than 62000 books of 11 types to 122 primary schools in Qiubei County, including "A Brief History of Vaccines" and "A Brief History of Pathogens" edited by Professor Zhang Wenhong.
