As a key support project of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee for Education and Health Work, the Shanghai Medical Expert Group Volunteer Service Project was recently led by Zhao Wenhua, Deputy Secretary of the School of Medicine at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, to Yunnan with relevant departments and experts from 12 affiliated hospitals to carry out group volunteer service and research activities.
Thousands of miles to send doctors to show their kindness
The medical expert team of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine has visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University, Eryuan County People's Hospital, and Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People's Hospital to carry out multiple large-scale free consultations and health education activities. The activities gathered more than 10 outstanding experts from 12 affiliated hospitals of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, covering more than 10 disciplines such as general surgery, dentistry, and obstetrics and gynecology. The activities have served a total of 2000 local patients.
At the free consultation site of the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University, a continuous stream of people came to seek advice and treatment, under the guidance of volunteers, in an orderly queue for treatment. Experts patiently and enthusiastically receive every patient, providing professional treatment advice and scientific health guidance based on their condition and problems. Grandma Du excitedly said, "After living for more than 80 years, I never expected to be able to find experts from Shanghai to seek medical treatment face to face right at my doorstep. It's still free! Thank you for the good policies of the Party and the country, thank you doctor!"
At the launch ceremony of the free clinic at the People's Hospital of Eryuan County, Dr. Cai Wei, Chief Physician of the General Surgery Department of the Affiliated Ruijin Hospital, gave a speech as an expert representative. He stated that the scale of this free clinic is the largest in history, and the experts hope to do their best to provide local people with the same homogeneous medical services and medical welfare as Shanghai, and establish a normalized and sustainable contact mechanism to truly benefit the local people.
The expert team held on-site discussions and research with the People's Hospital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and went to the living area of the team members to check their accommodation and care about their living conditions. The People's Hospital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is a key hospital for paired assistance from Ruijin Hospital. Over the years, a group of medical backbone members from Ruijin Hospital have come one after another, helping the hospital successfully establish the "top three" and injecting strong strength into the hospital's construction as a regional medical center in the eastern Tibetan region.
It is reported that since 2017, the School of Medicine of Jiaotong University has been continuously carrying out a group style medical expert volunteer service project for 6 years. Over the years, we have given full play to our exemplary role in fulfilling social responsibilities, organized a team of more than 100 experts with 12 affiliated hospitals to carry out large-scale free clinics, donations, health education and other activities in Yunnan, Xinjiang, Xizang, Guizhou and other counterpart construction areas and old revolutionary base areas, and served more than 10000 people around the country, so that the vast majority of people in border areas and old revolutionary base areas can enjoy high-quality medical resources at their homes, and help border areas to build medical highlands.
