Why were these non professional painters favored by Picasso? Entering the Wonderful World of Immature Artists Artists | Audience | Painter
The naive and clumsy painting school, highly praised by Picasso, came to China for the first time. "Daydreaming - A Wonderful World of Naive Artists" opened on July 31st at the Jiushi Art Museum in Shanghai. The exhibition showcases 55 oil paintings by 9 artists led by Henry Rousseau, the founder of the School of Painting, through 5 themed sections. Viewers can experience the pure artistic conception of the School of Painting in the context of innocence and innocence, understand the development background and artistic value of the School of Painting.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a special group of non professional painters were active in France, who used simple and direct methods to paint and gradually influenced a portion of artists and art genres that followed. They are immature artists. The 9 representative artists of the Naive School in this exhibition have not received systematic art education and training. Whether it's Henry Rousseau, the "dreamer", Louis Vivan, the "postal worker", Sahafin Louis, the "maid", Dominic Perone, the "veteran", Andre Bouchanne, the "gardener", Camille Bonboux, the "wrestler", Rene Rumbel, the "postal official", Jean Eff, the "mechanic", or Ferdinand Desnos, these painters with "dual identities" break the limitations of their themes and share vivid and brilliant artistic perspectives with the world through their imaginative imagination. Picasso, Degas, and the famous poet Apollinaire all highly praised the immature art.

The relationship between people and the environment is one of the important themes of the immature school. Rousseau and Desnos often created works based on their beloved, while other naive artists would depict historical or mythological figures. For naive painters, the focus of portrait painting is not on whether the portrait is realistic, but on the inconsistency between the theme and background of the work. This depiction method often produces a special artistic effect. There are also many creative works about flowers in the exhibition. Sahafin Louis, who often depicts flowers, created a complete artistic world using plants. For example, slender daisy petals like threads, grape clusters grafted onto palm tree trunks, all of these elements stand out in her works. Bao Shang combines various animals and plants in his works, and uses unexpected backgrounds to add an exotic atmosphere to daily scenes.
In this exhibition, Jiushi Art Museum showcases the wonderful world of naive artists to the audience from visual, auditory and other dimensions. Visually, Henry Rousseau's most representative jungle paintings have evolved into "Jungle Wonderland", and the audience will enter the jungle with curiosity for the "naive faction", embarking on a fantastic journey of dreams. Visually, the museum has launched a free voice guided experience, which not only allows the audience to understand the artist's life experience, but also enables them to understand the inner journey behind the creation. As the first group exhibition of the "Classic Art Masters Series" brand project at Jiushi Art Museum, the museum hopes to explore more little-known art stories and bring more diverse, exciting art exhibitions to the audience. During this exhibition, the Jiushi Art Museum will launch multiple fun interactive experiences and diverse public education activities for audiences of different age groups. The museum has also carefully designed and developed multiple cultural and creative products around the exhibition, allowing visitors to take this pure and naive "dream" home while watching.
