The third "Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Culture Festival" was jointly organized by the Chinese Theatre Association, the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Association, and the Hong Kong Dagong Wen Hui Media Group in Macau. From June 15th to 17th, Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe was invited to participate in Macau. This is the second time that Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe has been invited to participate in the first "Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Opera Culture Festival" since 2020.
The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Drama Culture Festival has gathered numerous winners of the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, Hong Kong opera masters, and outstanding young theatrical actors. The Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe has dispatched a team represented by Gu Hao, Li An, and Luo Chenxue, bringing fascinating and ingenious performances to Macau audiences.
On June 16th, the opening ceremony and large-scale theatrical evening of the 3rd Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Culture Festival were held at the Parisian Banquet Hall in Macau. At the opening ceremony, Gu Haohao, winner of the Plum Blossom Award and head of the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, as well as outstanding young actors Zhu Linyan and Lou Yunxiao from the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, made their final appearance with a segment of "Qingzunji: Zhaojun Goes Out of the Frontier", presenting a superb performance that emphasizes both singing and dancing, as well as complex skills for the audience.
On June 17th, Li An and Luo Chenxue, two "Plum Blossom Award" winners, staged the Kunqu opera "Jade Hairpin" at the Jinsha Theater, reproducing the light comedy on the Kunqu stage. This is the second time they have performed together on the stage in Macau, following the joint performance of Kunqu opera "Peony Pavilion" at the first Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Opera Culture Festival in 2020.

It is worth mentioning that the newly crowned "Plum Blossom" Luo Chenxue participated in the 31st China Drama Plum Blossom Awards in Macau in May and successfully "picked plum blossoms". During the performance, the Macau audience gave sincere encouragement and enthusiastic responses. Just a month later, the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe returned to Macau, and Luo Chenxue once again stood on the stage of Macau, presenting a classic Kunqu opera love story of "talent and beauty getting married", giving back to the support of Macau audiences.
The Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe brought a variety of performance activities with rich content to this drama and cultural festival. In addition to two performances that are both civil and military, Gu Haohao also led actors such as Lai An and Luo Chenxue to the alma mater of the Macau Special Administrative Region Chief Executive He Yicheng, Pei Dao Middle School, to carry out the "Chinese Opera Masters in Campus Lecture" exchange activity. He popularized Kunqu knowledge to students and on-site guests, explained the artistic characteristics of Kunqu, and sowed the seeds of Kunqu, so that Macau youth can better understand the profound traditional Chinese culture and inspire their respect and recognition of Chinese civilization.
With the support of the Chinese Drama Association, Shangkun has been visiting Macau three times since 2020, especially a month ago when the "Plum Blossom Award" was first held in Macau, and Shangkun added new plums. For the past three years, Shangkun has presented Kunqu opera performances such as "The Peony Pavilion," "The Jade Hairpin," "The Sword Society," and "The Emperor Zhaojun Goes Out of the Frontier," showcasing the essence and charm of traditional Chinese opera to Macau audiences through various forms such as guided tours, lectures, and interactive experiences.
Gu Haohao said, "Macao, China not only adheres to and inherits traditional Chinese culture, but also fully embraces foreign cultures. People from different cultures and customs here appreciate their beauty and coexist with each other. Its unique and precious practice of cultural exchange and mutual learning provides a vivid case for the innovative development of traditional Chinese opera. Macao plays an important role in promoting Chinese opera to go global, telling Chinese stories well on the world stage, spreading Chinese voices well, and allowing audiences to experience the profound Chinese civilization."
