Since the reform and opening up, in addition to traditional Chinese painting and Western painting introduced in modern times, China has produced a third type of art - contemporary art. Before the 21st century, it was known as modern art or exploratory art. The Yearbook of Contemporary Chinese Art has been published annually since its launch in 2005 and has been edited until 2022. The Yearbook focuses on recording "variables" rather than "constants", thus documenting and archiving art scenes. The Yearbook has been holding its annual yearbook exhibition since 2015, and this is the ninth edition.

Among them, 12 original works were exhibited in the Shanghai exhibition area, and then the entire exhibition was concentrated in the Macau exhibition area.

The 12 artists who exhibited their original works at the "China Contemporary Art Yearbook Exhibition 2022" at the Duolun Modern Art Museum in Shanghai are Feng Junyuan, Hu Qingyan, Hu Yinping, Li Ran, Liu Zhan, Ma Qiusha, Tan Yingjie, Tao Hui, Wang Guangle, Yang Yuanyuan, Zhang Ruyi, and Zheng Da. The exhibited works mainly focus on the flowing culture and survival experience in the context of globalization, the simulation and transformation of current social media and information methods, art and technology issues, and the value and boundaries of art. Based on these specific issues, a "Q&A" public interactive area has also been set up in the exhibition area. The organizer hopes that both the overall perspective of the "Yearbook" and the micro perspective of the exhibited works can provide the audience with a space for observation, thinking, imagination, and participation in "Chinese contemporary art".
