The Chinese controlled deep-sea monster blockbuster "Shark 2: Abyss" is here, with Jason Stanson and Wu Jing teaming up with Dousha Shark 2: Abyss | Global | Main control
The Shanghai film "Shark 2: Abyss" starring Jason Stanson and Wu Jing was released globally on August 4th. That evening, the 10th anniversary of the Shanghai International Trade Center (IAPM) Baili Palace IMAX Cinema and the special viewing event for "Giant Toothed Shark 2: Abyss" were held. With the immersive environment and audio-visual quality of the IMAX laser cinema, the audience "sneaked" into the 7000 meter deep sea, and the spectacular and eerie ancient monsters almost broke through the screen and were within reach. This is the first deep-sea monster blockbuster controlled by Chinese cinema, co produced by top teams from around the world, using marine monster types as carriers to capture the story of China's background to the world.
The movie "Jaws" grossed 535 million US dollars worldwide and 1.053 billion yuan in mainland China, becoming one of the most anticipated movie IPs among global audiences. In "Shark 2: Abyss," Jason Stanson's Jonas and Wu Jing's scientist Zhang Jiuming teamed up to embark on an exploration mission into the depths of the sea, facing a fierce and dangerous group of ancient monsters. This is their first collaboration, and in the movie, they are not only tacit teammates, but also brother-in-law and brother-in-law. The novel character relationship triggers interesting chemical reactions. During the filming process, Wu Jing also demonstrated the professionalism of Chinese actors to foreign partners. Whenever faced with praise from foreign staff, he would always say, "Chinese actors are like this.".
Most of the lines in the movie are in English, and according to the list of subtitles at the end, the vast majority of the staff come from abroad. Unlike Western blockbusters that rely on adding a few Chinese actors and saying a few Chinese lines to please the Chinese market in the past, the film has the core of Chinese culture and showcases the spirit of Chinese people exploring the unknown since ancient times. The character name of Wu Jing, "Jiuming," originates from the ancient poem "Up in the sky, Han, down in the candle, Jiuming.". Zhang Jiuming not only has the ability to fight monsters with his hands, but also serves as the backbone of his team, providing advice and strategies, and using his intelligence to rescue his teammates multiple times in times of crisis. Detailed and vivid Chinese lines and elements run through the entire process.

Director Ben Vitelli once revealed at the Shanghai International Film Festival that the fusion of Eastern and Western elements in Shark 2: Abyss comes from extensive communication and adaptation. "Sometimes American screenwriters write English lines that Chinese people don't say the same. Wu Jing has his own team to sort out his lines, provide suggestions, and ensure they conform to Chinese habits, which is very meaningful. Harmonious communication and exchange have facilitated good international production. The film tells the story of a shared human experience, with very distinct Chinese culture and local characteristics. I look forward to combining different types of hero stories in the future."
"As a Chinese controlled and globally distributed ocean monster blockbuster, many of the Chinese culture and concepts in the movie are reflected through the protagonist Zhang Jiuming. Through the relationship between Jiuming and Haiqi, we hope to convey the theme of harmonious coexistence between humans and the ocean, nature, and biology.". During this road show, many viewers praised the vivid and natural details of Chinese culture in the movie. Wu Jing also expressed his hope that through this movie, more audiences around the world can see Chinese culture.
Megalodon 2: Abyss is a movie suitable for big screen viewing. The deep-sea overlord Megalodon, the ferocious amphibious dragon hunting group, the mysterious and terrifying giant octopus, as well as the unknown prehistoric deep sea, dangerous underwater hiking, and underwater ridge explosions, all bring strong audio-visual shock. At the 10th anniversary event of the Shanghai International Trade Center (IAPM) Baili Palace x IMAX, the IMAX laser version of "Shark 2: Abyss" was screened, which also made the audience feel the charm of the IMAX laser system.
