A professional book exhibition that focuses on book art, book creation, sample book binding design, and booklet production - Shanghai Art Book Exhibition showcases the connection between art and books at the Binjiang Star Art Museum in Xuhui from June 9th to 11th. During the three-day exhibition, exhibitors and readers from all over the country used art books as a window for offline communication and interaction. On the afternoon of the opening day, enthusiastic readers had squeezed the scene to the limit of flow.

On a global scale, art book exhibitions are one of the artistic and cultural business cards of a city, showcasing the vitality of the city's visual culture and the creative status of young artists, visual designers, and illustrators, promoting innovation and dynamic development in the art reading and cultural design publishing industry.

The Shanghai Art Book Fair was founded in 2017, guided by the Shanghai Book and Publication Distribution Industry Association, organized by Shanghai Press Language Culture Communication Co., Ltd., and co organized by Shanghai United Book Industry Exhibition Co., Ltd. Since the beginning of the year, 508 domestic and foreign exhibition applications have been received, and 230 exhibitors have finally been selected, exceeding the scale of previous art book exhibitions. The exhibitors are mostly active book designers, individual artists, domestic and foreign gallery and art museum institutions, as well as art and design forces closely monitored by the domestic publishing industry in recent years.

The first floor exhibition space of the 1500 square meters of the Star Art Museum at this year's Shanghai Art Book Exhibition is arranged in the form of a matrix of small booths, where designers, artists, publishers, and readers exchange new books, works, and cultural and creative products face-to-face.

The second floor space offers multi-dimensional and multi themed art exhibitions. Among them, the "Most Beautiful Books in the Netherlands Exhibition" supported by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Shanghai made its debut, presenting 33 of the most beautiful books of 2021, attracting book designers and publishing house editors from all over the country to browse, learn, and discuss on site; Beijing LeileiBook collaborates with the fifth studio of the Central American Printmaking Department and the printing studio of the Chuanmei Printmaking Department to jointly plan the "The Book as Art Artist Handmade Book Course Teaching Exhibition and the Special Exhibition of the Founding of" Artistic Calligraphy "; The publication "Art Letters" edited by artist Xu Bing is aimed at universities and educational institutions, soliciting more teaching cases related to handmade books. There are also some sub theme exhibitions on the second floor, such as the Typewriter Magazine ToCall, which shares this booklet with readers from multiple perspectives such as theme, design, layout, and retro manual printing, with a print volume of only 100 copies.

The lectures selected by exhibitors from the Shanghai Art Book Fair have always been the focus and expectation of art book fair readers. At the book fair, 30 guest lectures were provided, such as "Our Text Department", "Magazine into: Looking at the Appearance of Chinese Design in the Past Decade", "As a Publication for Performance", "Exploring the Three Dimensional Content of Print Magazines", "Let's Pick Up a Book Together/What is the Boundary of Art Book Design", "Why Choose Risography to Practice Our Ideas", "Liu Yi's Mobile Painting", etc. The main speakers exchanged ideas and shared experiences with colleagues on site.

The train carriage outside the Star Art Museum is one of the highlights of this year's Shanghai Art and Book Exhibition. The original site of the Star Art Museum was the "Rihui Port Cargo Terminal" during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, which was the earliest sea to land freight terminal in China. On this green train that carries a century long memory and travels through modern and contemporary Chinese history, Pudong Private Huili School · FOH Art Community brings a font poster design exhibition for nearly a hundred students, and the light of the new generation of art and design reignites this old train.

This year's Shanghai Art and Book Fair has established a "4 Awards+1 Exhibition" for the first time, encouraging selected exhibitors and authors to actively participate with a "small award is also honorable" attitude. The "4 Awards+1 Exhibition" are respectively the Best Designs Recommended Works, Sample Expert Award, Brochure Zine Innovation Award, Best Exhibitors Outstanding Exhibitor, and Best Posters Excellent Poster Design Exhibition at the Shanghai Art and Book Fair. A jury composed of designers, artists, curators, and industry observers will score and award on the spot from the perspectives of exhibitors' on-site preparation, exhibition status, artistic quality of exhibition posters, richness, experimentation, conceptualization of book works, leading and pioneering role in the domestic book design industry, booklet innovation, and exhibition design completion.

The Shanghai Art and Book Fair has been invited multiple times by the Tokyo Art and Book Fair, Berlin Art and Book Fair, Amsterdam Art and Book Fair, Seoul Art and Book Fair, Seto Inland Sea Art and Book Fair, and has exchanged and cooperated with art and book fair organizers from around the world.
