And outside the zoo, what is the survival state of wild giant pandas? Since the age of 19, Lv Zhi, a professor at the School of Life Sciences at Peking University and a well-known Chinese conservation biologist and ecologist, has been exploring the natural survival status of giant pandas in the wild. She has unveiled the mysterious veil of wild giant panda life to the world and is known as the "closest human to wild giant pandas".

When it comes to why she chose to study nature conservation, Lv Zhi candidly said, "I was led on this path by giant pandas." In order to observe and study the living habits of giant pandas, she often "tracks" them for dozens of hours continuously, but enjoys it. In the program, Lv Zhi will share her story with the wild panda "Jiaojiao". "When 'Jiaojiao' had just given birth to her second child named 'Hope', I couldn't help but touch it. It didn't react or even startle me, which was the biggest reward for me." Chen Chen, the producer of 'Future China', was also moved by it. "I realized that protecting animals may still require some maternal love. When faced with difficulties in the future, perhaps the touch of 'Jiaojiao' will become a source of courage."

Unlike pandas in zoos, wild pandas are very cautious. In order to further interact with wild giant pandas, Lv Zhi learned to communicate with them and described them as "level ten panda language" using popular slang nowadays. When asked about some interesting things, she shared, "Once I met a male panda, and when it saw me turn around and run, I called it 'flattery' and gently called it. But after running more than ten steps, it stood down."

Since 2000, the panda population has been slowly growing, and now there are nearly 2000 wild giant pandas, but their habitats still face significant risks. "More and more small panda populations are emerging, and humans are constantly moving in panda habitats." Lv Zhi explained, "Giant pandas are wild animals that need to live in nature. The challenge we face now is how to coexist harmoniously with nature and pandas." Under the influence of human activities, the rate of species extinction has been tens or even hundreds of times higher than the average rate of the past ten million years, and this rate is still increasing. Protecting the environment and biodiversity is urgent.

Li Xueyang, a doctoral student from the School of Life Sciences at Peking University, has been chasing snow leopards and leopards on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau for years, becoming one of the few researchers to witness these two species. In this episode, she and Dr. Zhang Jiawei from Fudan University rushed to the Giant Panda National Park in Guanba, Sichuan Province to embark on a journey of "searching for wild giant pandas". According to accompanying staff, giant pandas have a particularly sensitive sense of smell and are difficult to track, so for many years they have only heard their sounds.
