On July 19th, young readers who walked into the Changfeng Hall of Shanghai Children's Library found that many colorful small balls were hanging neatly under the "Tree of Wisdom"; Surrounding the area is an immersive reading exhibition of "Children" in the classic collection of "Our Shanghai style Childhood". This is a gift prepared for young readers in the first year of the opening of Changfeng Pavilion.
The Children's Library has become a new landmark for public cultural and reading enjoyment in Shanghai, with one library and two locations. At present, the total collection of literature in the Children's Library of the city has exceeded 1.37 million copies, an increase of 232.6% compared to before the construction of the Changfeng New Library. Within a year, 325100 people entered the Shanghai Children's Library. According to the "One Card" borrowing statistics of the Shanghai center Library, the municipal children's library has borrowed and returned 3.9 million books and 560000 person times. The total number of fans of new media platforms such as official official account, video number, Xiaohongshu, B station, Tiktok, etc. is 251000, an increase of 189.4% compared with that before the opening of Changfeng New Museum. 510 events, including the Shanghai Fairy Tale Festival, the collection of parent-child reading sound archives, the Little Picture Lecture Hall, and the Immersive Reading Exhibition, were held at the Changfeng and Nanxi pavilions, with a total number of participants reaching 2017053.
"Bi-directional travel" with children and adolescents
During the summer vacation, the Municipal Children's Library and various district public libraries jointly launched the 2023 Shanghai Fairy Tale Festival Summer Children's Reading Series with the theme of "Reading and Enjoying Imagination". It is worth mentioning that the Shaotu Lecture Hall, which has accompanied readers for twelve years, has been upgraded with four major sections: parent-child reading series, renowned teacher led reading series, "This is China" traditional culture series, and "Art" aesthetic education series. Digital Empowerment for High Quality Development of Children's Libraries
On the occasion of the first anniversary of the opening of Changfeng Library, guided by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Shanghai Children's Library and the Shanghai Library Society organized the "Future Road" 2023 Shanghai Children's Reading and Service Innovation Academic Seminar. The seminar focused on new topics such as innovation in children's reading services under the background of AI, digital literacy training for minors, and the future development path of children's libraries. Experts and scholars in the field of libraries from all over the country, as well as public librarians in the city, conducted discussions online and offline.
Xu Qiang, Deputy Director of Shanghai Library, and Fan Bisi, Professor of Information Management at East China Normal University, respectively gave expert reports on "Interpretation" and "Analysis of Smart, Inclusive and Connected Children's Services in Shanghai Library"; Professor Mao Yihong from the School of Information Management at Nanjing Agricultural University, Professor Wu Yonghe from the Department of Educational Information Technology at East China Normal University, and Director Yang Yanna from the Shanghai Children's Library presented keynote reports on "Empowering Children's Library Reading Services with Artificial Intelligence", "Digital Vegetarian Cultivation for Minors in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", and "Continuing the Past, Opening up the Future, and Innovating Development - Making the Library a Spiritual Home for Children's Growth". The National Library Children's Library, Shenzhen Children's Library, Shanghai Children's Library, Shanghai Pudong Library, Beihai Children's Library, and Shanghai Private Pinghe School Library shared six sets of cases.
The Municipal Children's Library has also released a research report on empowering reading with artificial intelligence for minors, which comprehensively analyzes the construction and future development direction of digital libraries for minors. With the development of technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, big data, and AR/VR, children's libraries are actively exploring the creation of smart libraries that understand children's hearts. Through the "Delifu" book self-service sorting system, children's puzzle centers, robot laboratories, and digital platforms, children's libraries are expanding their diverse reading and intelligent application scenarios.
