Shanghai Ballet's "Light of the Earth" Goes to Inner Mongolia to Participate in the 14th National Dance Exhibition Works | National | Light of the Earth
On July 15th, the Shanghai Ballet departed for Ordos, Inner Mongolia with their original ballet "Light of the Earth" to participate in the 14th National Dance Exhibition. The National Dance Exhibition is a national level artistic event in the field of dance. Over the past 40 years, it has released a large number of excellent dance works, exploring and cultivating numerous creative and performing talents. "The Light of the Earth" is recommended by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and is the only ballet work in this exhibition. It will be performed on July 17th and 18th at the Cultural and Art Center of Dalu New Area in Zhungeer Banner.
"The Light of the Earth" premiered in November last year, telling the story of a "light chaser" born in a chaotic environment who pursues light, sows light, and ultimately becomes "light" to improve their situation and light up the world. It praises the fearlessness and tenacity of life when it is deeply troubled. This work was directed by Wu Husheng, Deputy Head and Chief Actor of the Shanghai Ballet, and completed by the Shanghai Ballet's independent creative team consisting of lighting designer Liu Haiyuan, stage beauty designer Huang Jiajie, and fashion designer Shi Yunzhi. The work showcases the contemporary exploration of Shanghai style ballet and won the Excellent Creation Award and Excellent Performance Award at the 2nd Yangtze River Delta Professional Dance Exhibition in March this year.
"The Light of the Earth is an original ballet that combines symphony and narrative, classical and futuristic elements." Wu Husheng said, "Its birth is a new challenge and breakthrough for me and the entire young creative team of the Shanghai Ballet. Since its premiere, this work has become increasingly mature through continuous polishing, and we look forward to conveying the power of 'hope' to everyone on the stage of national dance performances."
"The Light of the Earth" uses the music of two composers, Debussy and Beethoven, especially presenting the two "Moonlight" on the same stage, engaging in a dialogue that transcends time and space through dance and music. The performance attire, represented by TUTU skirts and toe shoes, collides with classical ballet elements and contemporary elements, creating a futuristic stage design. The main actors of the Shanghai Ballet, Qi Bingxue, Xu Jingkun, and Zhang Wenjun, will each play three distinct symbolic roles: "Light", "Chaser of Light", and "Night Watch".
After more than 40 years of development, the Shanghai Ballet has created nearly 180 original works. Xin Lili, the head of the Shanghai Ballet, said, "Faced with a new era and a new journey, Wu Husheng led the young team of Shangba to nurture 'The Light of the Earth' with the purest love. I am glad that this work can participate in the 14th National Dance Exhibition. I hope that audience friends can see the efforts and determination of the Shanghai Ballet in independent innovation and daring to climb the artistic peak through this work."
