Online intellectual property is gradually expanding overseas, and Disney is pre purchasing exclusive overseas distribution rights for the second season of "Celebrating the Year". Industry | Development | Distribution Rights
On the morning of June 16th, the "Internet Publishing Development Forum" made its debut at the 29th Beijing International Book Expo. For the first time, this year's Art Expo has established an "Online Publishing House", focusing on the achievements made in the internationalization of online literature and games, committed to promoting industrial integration and global cooperation, and promoting cultural "going global" in a three-dimensional manner.
In recent years, the online publishing industry represented by Yuewen Group has developed rapidly, showing a positive trend in prospering the cultural industry and enhancing cultural exchanges. "The integration and development of traditional and digital publishing has become an innovative trend in global cultural exchange." Hou Xiaonan, CEO of Yuewen Group and Vice President of Tencent Platform and Content Business Group, believes that online literature is one of the most dynamic carriers of cross-cultural communication.

Overseas online works cover 13 languages
As a newly established venue for this year's China International Import and Export Expo, the Online Publishing House has attracted a lot of attention. Li An, a full-time researcher of the Internet Information Research Institute of Communication University of China, believes that online publishing, represented by online literature and games, has gradually become an important form and mainstream way of cultural outreach. "The establishment of online publishing houses has broadened the channels for Chinese cultural outreach and improved the new pattern of building a cultural power."
For the first time, it made its debut at the online publishing house, and the reading exhibition booth was designed with the core concept of "making good stories thrive". It set up sections such as party building leadership, copyright protection, real-life themes, IP boutiques, and overseas communication, showcasing the achievements of mainstream development and overseas dissemination of online literature. On the first day of launch, it attracted more than ten overseas publishing institutions such as Springer and Amarin to inquire and cooperate.

Audience visits to the "Online Publishing House"
Sutheemon Laonyomthai is the overseas copyright owner of Amarin Group, a well-known media group in Thailand. Previously, the organization had published Thai versions of several reading works, such as "Good Things Come Hard". She introduced that Amarin has more than 10 publishing houses specializing in the translation and distribution of Chinese novels. "The demand for Chinese translated novels in the Thai market is very strong, far exceeding that of novels in other languages."
It is understood that Yuewen has cooperated with 66 overseas publishing institutions such as Penguin Landon, Amarin, and Libre, and has authorized more than 900 digital and physical book publishing works to multiple parts of the world. At the same time, its overseas portal, Qidian International, has also launched over 2900 translated works of Chinese online literature. These works include various genres such as fantasy, fantasy, urban, and science fiction, covering 13 languages including English, French, Russian, Western, Japanese, Korean, and Thai, and have gained popularity in over 200 countries and regions worldwide.
As the scope and influence of going abroad continue to expand, online literature has gradually become an innovative force driving global cultural exchange. Taking Qidian International as an example, overseas readers can read while commenting, updating, and understanding the culture of their works in the community. The highest number of comments on a single work has exceeded one million, demonstrating the interactive vitality of "global co reading".
From Global Co reading to Global Development
In recent years, the development of the domestic IP industry chain has become increasingly mature, and audio, animation, and film and television works adapted from online literature are also widely popular overseas. Taking film and television as an example, film and television works adapted from online IPs such as "Celebrating the Year of the Yu", "My Husband", and "Jin Xin Si Yu" continue to appear on overseas television stations and mainstream video platforms. Shortly after the first season of "Celebrating Years" was aired, Disney pre purchased the exclusive overseas distribution rights for the second season.

Nowadays, this set of online literature creation mechanism and industrial ecology that originated in China is taking root overseas. In terms of creation, after the launch of the original function by Qidian International in May 2018, a group of overseas readers embarked on the path of online writing, and online writing went from global co reading to global creation. According to the 2022 China Online Fun Report, Qidian International has cultivated about 340000 overseas original writers, with a compound annual growth rate of over 130% over four years; Approximately 500000 original overseas works have been released, with urban, Western fantasy, Eastern fantasy, gaming competition, and science fiction becoming the top five genres.
On the basis of global creation, Yuewen draws on the mature domestic IP industry model and begins to further explore the global development of overseas original works. About 40% of the award-winning works in the annual global award-winning essay competition at Qidian International have entered IP development, including audio, animation, film and television forms, with cooperation teams from multiple countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Thailand.
Exlor, a science fiction web writer from the Netherlands, was one of the earliest creators to publish works at Qidian International. His representative work "God of Machinery" tells the adventure story of humanity in the era of galactic civilization, and has been serialized with over 40 million views, ranking among the top 5 in popularity for a long time. Exlor is passionate about IP development, "I look forward to my work being adapted into comics, immersing those who love this work in a more exciting and interesting universe."
From global co reading to global creation and then to global development, Chinese online literature has set up a more widely connected stage for global cultural exchange. "The global co creation ecosystem is the future of online literature," Hou Xiaonan said. Yuewen hopes to work with global creators and industry partners to further create an innovative, open, and inclusive global co innovation ecosystem, and explore new ideas for promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning in the digital age.
