On the afternoon of September 2nd, at the Jinjiang Small Auditorium in Shanghai, the original public welfare boutique concert of Ma Xiaohui's "New Culture, Tourism, New Art Education, and New Life" was held, titled "One Erhu Tour Across the World". Ma Xiaohui, the "Erhu Fairy", uses his erhu to converse with Chinese and Western instruments such as cello, viola, violin, piano, and horsehead qin. He also crosses boundaries with Chinese and foreign cultural elements such as qipao, Chinese kung fu, and modern dance, bringing a flowing feast of Shanghai style culture and art.

In Ma Xiaohui's view, today, cultural tourism is not only a form of rest and entertainment, but also a great art education and a new way of life. "We hope to use innovative expressions with Chinese humanistic spirit and Shanghai style characteristics to explore the ways of opening up 'new cultural tourism, new aesthetic education, and new life', heal the soul, praise nature, and open a new chapter in telling the story of China well on the world stage."

Follow the colorful erhu to travel around the world

The "Xiaohui Colorful Erhu" in Ma Xiaohui's hand seems to have a pair of wings, leading the audience to travel around. This music collection is divided into four chapters, sometimes wandering along the Silk Road, sometimes arriving at the moonlit night in Jiangnan, and sometimes arriving at the endless grasslands.

Since 1997, Ma Xiaohui has taken an erhu to nearly 100 countries in Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa, hosting over 1000 solo concerts and lectures, using the erhu to engage in dialogue with the world. Since it is a dialogue, it is not one-sided. Bach's creative songs, Czech classics, Russian waltzes, Argentine tango, American country music, and Mongolian long tunes can all be perfectly interpreted using the erhu. She constantly shuttles between the Eastern and Western stages, exploring the expression boundaries of erhu art, and also finding more and more acquaintances for Chinese culture overseas. In order to bring domestic and foreign audiences closer to the erhu, she boldly expanded her performance format, speaking while pulling, and even leading performances, appreciating both refined and popular elements.

Erhu and Cello

When it comes to the erhu, the first thing that many people think of is the blind Ah Bing's "Two Springs Reflecting on the Moon", and even the erhu, a musical instrument, is painted with a layer of sadness. Ma Xiaohui has always hoped to break such stereotypes and let more people hear the different colors and diverse personalities of the erhu. "The erhu has the romantic beauty of cello, the gentle and humble nature of viola, and the gorgeous and bright nature of violin. It is full of spirituality and the wisdom of Chinese people."

On site, Ma Xiaohui - The Song of the Earth - Cross disciplinary Chamber Symphony Orchestra from China and the West made an appearance, integrating classic innovation from China and the West with works such as "From Good Night" to "Humor Song" and "From Bach's" Two Creative Songs "to" Ten Thousand Horses Running ". "Innovation can be addictive," said Ma Xiaohui. "For 20 years, I have been thinking and exploring how to use the erhu to tell the story of China well and spread Chinese culture around the world. I hope that the 'Ma Xiaohui Earth Song Cross disciplinary Chamber Symphony Orchestra' will take Chinese culture as the cornerstone, exchange and learn from world music, and build a heart bridge with sound."

Erhu and Modern Dance

The world is changing, and the pursuit of beauty remains unchanged

Holding a colorful hand-painted erhu and dressed in colorful hand-painted art attire, Ma Xiaohui's erhu not only sounds beautiful but also pleasantly pleasing to the eye. Her bowing posture and movements are smooth and rhythmic, highly ornamental. "The bow of the erhu is like a calligraphy brush, and playing it is like waving a brush on blank paper. It is both a form of creation and an expression of Chinese cultural spirit. In my opinion, the erhu is a calligraphy with sound, a painting brush with sound."

As the initiator of the Ma Xiaohui Special Fund of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, she hopes to experience beauty, experience beauty, create beauty, and become beauty together through public welfare.

Erhu and Calligraphy

Ma Xiaohui said, "What we need to do is constantly embrace the present, constantly innovate, and keep up with the times. I am willing to use the erhu as a medium to make the erhu warm, spiritual, and ever-changing expressive, making the world softer and bringing us closer to each other."

In 2000, Ma Xiaohui collaborated with cellist Ma Youyou to record the music for the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" composed by Tan Dun, winning the Academy Award for Best Original Music. This time, Ma Xiaohui's performance of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" incorporates Chinese Kung Fu, bringing a brand new audio-visual experience to the audience. At the performance venue, such fusion and innovation are everywhere. In "Memories of Jiangnan", the erhu and modern dance intersect; In the Spring River Flower Moon Night, the erhu meets Tai Chi; In "Inheritance - Crossing", the Shanghai style qipao is displayed; The popular voice group "Voice of Power" also came to the scene to perform "Our Shanghai" and "Song of the Yangtze River".
