Asian debut with 5 new works, this international art event returns to Shanghai International after 3 years | Puppetry | Event
On August 10th, the "Golden Magnolia" Shanghai International Puppetry Art Festival, which is known as the "Mid Festival" of the Shanghai International Art Festival in China, announced that it will return from September to December after a three-year hiatus. The annual festival will be adjusted from a biennial one, and the first "International Fine Puppetry Art Exhibition" will be launched, creating a new pattern of "Double Event Single Exhibition" Shanghai International Puppetry Art Exchange.
During the event, the Shanghai Puppetry Troupe made a brilliant debut with works from 10 countries including Russia, Germany, Brazil, Armenia, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Portugal, and Israel, including the "Salute to Classics" section and numerous overseas new works, witnessing the "Asian debut" performance feast together.
The Shanghai International Puppetry Art Festival will also launch its first national tour, radiating to Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and other places, with over a hundred activities to create a carnival of puppet art.
The Shanghai Xianlesi Puppetry Exhibition Center will hold 52 exhibitions. The Shanghai Puppetry Troupe's large-scale musical play "The Free Walking Elephant" explores the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature through the cross-border integration of puppet dramas and musicals. It cleverly personifies the state of the elephant mother and son, and uses the departure of the little elephant to symbolize the growth process of teenagers and the care and education of parents for their children.
The exhibition showcases outstanding award-winning works from previous Shanghai International Puppetry Art Festival, as well as new overseas puppetry works from the Netherlands, Australia, Russia, and other countries. Five new overseas puppetry works, known as the "Asian debut," have been showcased. Among the exhibition works full of exotic charm, fantasy installations, and heartwarming themes, there is a dazzling kaleidoscope like "Extraordinary Journey", "Rainbow Tiger's Fantasy Journey" that takes the audience back and forth in the dream world, "Light" that begins the journey of spiritual healing, "Thumbelina" with romantic light and shadow, "Notre Dame Cathedral" with multiple roles played by one person, and "Cecilia's Fantastic Thoughts" full of memories, helping to understand others' "Different Brother". During the event, Pudong New Area will hold a "12 hour Puppet Carnival" to create a new urban cultural experience. The Puppet Art Festival will also be included in the core commercial district performance season.
The event is guided by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Shanghai Radio and Television Station, and Shanghai Culture, Radio, Film and Television Group Co., Ltd. It is hosted by the Shanghai International Art Festival Center, Shanghai Wenguang Performing Arts Co., Ltd., the UNESCO International Puppetry Federation China Center, and the China Puppetry and Shadow Play Art Society. The event is hosted by the Shanghai Theatre Association and Shanghai Puppetry Troupe Co., Ltd.
