Hong Kong Disneyland ticket prices rise to nearly NT$1,000
According to reports from multiple Hong Kong media outlets, Hong Kong Disneyland has increased its prices starting today, with the most expensive tier of adult tickets approaching $1,000.
According to reports, Hong Kong Disneyland has raised the price of its park entrance tickets starting today, with a 5% to 7% increase in adult and child one-day tickets, and a 3% to 13% increase in the price of Magic Access membership cards. The park specifically pointed out that there will be special discounts on or before November 28 this year, and guests can still purchase one-day tickets at the old price. In addition, to celebrate Hong Kong Disneyland's 20th anniversary next year, the park will hold various celebrations throughout the year.
According to the latest adjustment, the first-level adult ticket of Disneyland has increased from 639 yuan to 669 yuan, and the child ticket has increased from 475 yuan to 499 yuan; the fourth-level adult ticket has increased from 879 yuan to 939 yuan, and the child ticket has increased from 659 yuan to 705 yuan. The price of the "Magic Access" membership card has increased by 3% to 13%, among which the standard price of the platinum card has increased from 4678 yuan to 4998 yuan, and the child ticket has been adjusted from 3368 yuan to 3748 yuan.
In addition, Hong Kong Disneyland said that according to the consistent market practice of theme parks and tourist attractions in Hong Kong and neighboring regions, the elderly will be classified into the same ticket category as children, and the price of "Magic Access" membership cards for students and the elderly will also be integrated into the same price category as children. The age limit for elderly tickets and "Magic Access" elderly membership cards will be reduced to 60 years old. The park will continue to offer a discounted price of HK$100 to Hong Kong residents aged 60 or above to purchase one-day tickets.
The reporter found that the official website of Hong Kong Disneyland has not yet issued a notice of price increase, and consumers can still purchase tickets at the original price. The reporter interviewed several "Disney fans" who have visited Hong Kong Disneyland many times. They all said that a small price increase would not affect their willingness to visit Disneyland, and Disneyland is still the first choice for families to travel for a short period of time. The reporter also visited Hong Kong Disneyland during the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the park was as crowded as traditional tourist areas in Hong Kong such as Mong Kok and Central.
Revenue increased by 156% to HK$5.7 billion in fiscal year 2023
The reporter noted that Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is owned by a joint venture company, Hong Kong International Theme Parks Limited, whose shareholders are the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Walt Disney Company. As of the 2023 fiscal year, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government holds a 52% stake in Hong Kong International Theme Parks Limited, while Walt Disney Company holds a 48% stake.
As of now, Hong Kong Disneyland has seven theme areas: Adventureland, Fantasyland, Grizzly Gulch, Main Street, U.S.A., Mystic Manor, Tomorrowland and Toy Story Land. The theme areas are equipped with themed rides, entertainment performances, interactive experiences, catering services, merchandise stores and snack kiosks. In addition, the park brings parades and nighttime activities every day. There are three theme hotels in the resort, including Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney's Hollywood Hotel.
In June this year, Hong Kong Disneyland announced its 2023 fiscal year results and the latest development of the resort. The number of local visitors to the theme park hit a new record high, and the number of visitors from the mainland and overseas rebounded compared to before the epidemic, with strong momentum. In fiscal 2023, the park's revenue increased by 156% year-on-year to HK$5.7 billion; earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization increased by 207% year-on-year to HK$924 million; and net losses narrowed by 83% year-on-year to HK$356 million.
In addition, per capita consumption increased by 54% during the fiscal year, with a total of 6.4 million visitors, an increase of 87%; the annual hotel utilization rate was 77%, and the overall occupancy rate increased by 23 percentage points to 47%.
Hong Kong Disneyland continues to grow in appeal to local guests, with record-breaking local attendances in fiscal 2023, including new highs for young guests and students participating in Disney youth group activities. According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the rebound in non-local guest attendance at Hong Kong Disneyland has outstripped the recovery in overall visitor numbers.
The world's first "Frozen" theme park, which opened in 2023, has effectively driven the development of the park. In December 2023, the resort entered another milestone, welcoming the 100 millionth guest since its opening in 2005.
In addition to the price increase, there is another phenomenon worthy of attention - this year, Disney has new moves in its projects in China.
In the first quarter of this year, Shanghai Disney Resort has officially announced the new park, saying that a new independent theme attraction adjacent to the "Zootopia" theme park is being planned. It is themed around the popular Marvel superhero Spider-Man and provides an immersive roller coaster experience, which can attract tourists who like exciting projects and meet the expectations of Marvel fans.
Hong Kong Disneyland is also launching new products around Marvel IP. Hong Kong Disneyland will build a new Marvel-themed extension area and the rides therein, and will show its concept map for the first time. This project is the third part of Hong Kong Disneyland's Marvel-themed expansion in Tomorrowland, which will provide tourists with entertainment, shopping and dining services, and further expand the scale of the Marvel Super Hero Universe in Hong Kong Disneyland.
In fact, since the grand opening of Shanghai Disney Resort in June 2016, Shanghai Disneyland has completed two expansion projects, including the "Disney Pixar Toy Story" theme park, which opened in April 2018, and the second new theme park "Zootopia" which will be grandly opened in December 2023. The announcement of the new Spider-Man roller coaster project is less than a year after the opening of the previous park.
Hong Kong Disneyland launched the "Frozen" theme park last year. What is the reason behind Disney's frequent launch of new products in China?
According to relevant reports, in 2023, Shanghai Disneyland received more than 13 million visitors, setting a record for passenger flow since its opening. During this period, more than 40.99 million people watched the live entertainment performances at Shanghai Disney Resort. The annual passenger flow of the entire Shanghai International Tourism Resort, including major attractions such as Shanghai Disney Resort, Bicester Shanghai Shopping Village, and Ecological Park, reached 25.627 million. These data still have room for further growth.
The most popular attraction in Shanghai Disneyland, the Seven Dwarfs Roller Coaster, often has a waiting time of more than two hours during peak summer days. The new Spider-Man roller coaster to be built this time can be said to be an upgraded version of the Seven Dwarfs Roller Coaster. Its ability to attract customers after completion is beyond doubt.
Hong Kong Disneyland CEO Peter Mok also said that Hong Kong Disneyland has greatly promoted and contributed to Hong Kong's economy and community through continuous investment, market-tailored rides, experiences and stories, and its efforts in corporate citizenship affairs.
It is understood that Hong Kong Disneyland will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025, and a series of activities will be launched to celebrate.
